What is Roots — ATT Platform?

Roots is a web-based tourism data platform built to support evidence-based decision making for sustainable tourism management. It aggregates, organises, and visualises key sustainability indicators for the destinations of Barra and Costa Nova in Portugal. The platform brings together time-series data across multiple thematic areas — from environmental health and economic performance to social cohesion and cultural vitality — and presents them through interactive charts, filterable dashboards, and exportable reports.

Mission

Tourism destinations face increasing pressure to balance visitor growth with environmental preservation, community wellbeing, and economic resilience. Roots provides the factual foundation for those decisions. The platform’s mission is to:
  • Make sustainability data accessible and interpretable for a wide range of stakeholders
  • Enable trend analysis over time by tracking indicator values across configurable date ranges and granularities
  • Support governance processes by flagging indicators with direct policy relevance
  • Foster transparency by publishing indicator sources, methodologies, and data periods alongside the data itself

Platform sections

Indicators dashboard

The core of the platform. Indicators are organised into domains (top-level thematic areas) and dimensions (sub-categories within each domain). You can browse all indicators, filter by domain or dimension, search by keyword, and bookmark favourites for quick return access. Each indicator has an interactive time-series chart with zoom controls, granularity switching (raw values, daily, weekly, monthly, yearly aggregation), and export options for both raw data (CSV) and chart images (PNG).

Blog

A rich-text editorial space where platform administrators publish articles, analyses, and updates related to tourism sustainability in the destination. Blog posts are browsable at /blog and individual posts are accessible at /blog/:postId.

Admin panel

A restricted area for platform administrators to manage all content: domains, indicators, dimensions, resources, blog posts, and user accounts. Admin access requires a valid account with the administrator role.
