Alliance Research Indicators delegates all authentication to AWS Cognito, which in turn connects to your organization’s identity provider. You sign in with the same institutional credentials you use for other CGIAR systems — there is no separate username or password to manage for this platform.

Reaching the login page

Navigate to the platform URL and click Log in from the landing page, or go directly to /login. If you try to access a protected page without an active session, you are automatically redirected to the login page and returned to your original destination after you sign in successfully.

How sign-in works

1

Click 'Continue with your CGIAR account'

The login page shows a single sign-in button labeled Continue with your CGIAR account. Clicking it redirects your browser to the Cognito-managed authentication screen, where you enter your institutional email and password.By proceeding, you acknowledge the platform’s Terms & Conditions.
2

Authenticate with your organizational credentials

You authenticate directly through your organization’s identity provider. The platform itself never receives or stores your password. Cognito handles the credential exchange and issues a session token on success.
3

Wait for session setup

After Cognito confirms your identity, you are redirected back to the platform. A brief “Authenticating, please wait…” screen appears while your session is initialized — user profile, role assignments, and cached control lists are loaded. This typically takes a few seconds.
4

Land on the platform home

Once authentication completes, you are sent to the platform home (or the page you were originally trying to reach). Your name and role appear in the navigation, confirming your session is active.

Session management and automatic token refresh

Your session is maintained automatically. The platform handles token refresh in the background — you do not need to sign in again after a short browser idle or when switching between pages. When your session does expire (for example, after an extended period of inactivity), the platform re-prompts you to sign in. You are returned to the page you were on before the session expired rather than the home screen.
Keep the platform open in a dedicated browser tab during active reporting sessions. This gives the background refresh mechanism the best chance to maintain your session without interruption.

If sign-in fails

Several conditions can prevent a successful sign-in: Your account is not provisioned If your CGIAR credentials are valid but you cannot access the platform, your account may not have been granted access yet. Contact your center administrator or Alliance IT Support to confirm your account is provisioned. Authentication error after redirect If the platform shows an error dialog after you return from Cognito, it means the authentication exchange failed. The dialog offers two options:
  • Retry Log in — restarts the sign-in flow from the beginning
  • Cancel — returns you to the login page without an active session
Try Retry Log in first. If the error persists, note any message text shown and contact support. Cognito is unreachable On rare occasions, network issues or Cognito service outages prevent the redirect from completing. If your browser stalls or shows a network error on the Cognito-hosted page, wait a few minutes and try again. Check with your IT team if the problem continues.
Do not share your CGIAR credentials or attempt to sign in on behalf of another user. Each researcher must sign in with their own institutional account. Access rights and audit trails are tied to individual user identities.

Signing out

To end your session, open the user menu in the top navigation and select Sign out. This clears your active session from the browser. Closing the browser tab does not sign you out — use the sign-out option when working on a shared machine.

Roles and what you can access

What you can see and do after signing in is determined by your assigned role. The platform supports four primary roles:
  • Researcher / Result Reporter — create and edit your own results, attach evidence, and submit for review
  • Center Admin — manage your center’s full result portfolio and access bulk upload and SDG management tools
  • MEL Regional Expert — review and validate results across your assigned region
  • Cross-Platform Consumer — read-only access to search and analyze federated results
Your role is assigned by your center administrator or MEL coordinator and reflected in the navigation and available actions immediately after sign-in. For a full breakdown of what each role can do, see Roles and permissions.

Contacting support

If you are unable to sign in and the steps above do not resolve the issue, contact Alliance IT Support: Email: alliance-itsupport@cgiar.org Include your institutional email address and a description of what you see when the error occurs.
