General Usage

Utopia Fleet Builder is a comprehensive digital tool for building and managing fleets in Star Trek Attack Wing. It provides access to the complete card database, fleet construction tools, and helps validate your builds according to game rules.
  1. Navigate to the Fleet Builder section
  2. Set your squadron point limit
  3. Select your faction or choose Independent
  4. Add ships, captains, and upgrades from the available cards
  5. The builder automatically calculates costs and validates your fleet
Yes! Utopia allows you to save fleet builds locally in your browser. You can also export them to share with others or import pre-built fleets.
Use the search functionality in the card browser. You can filter by:
  • Card name
  • Faction
  • Card type (ship, captain, upgrade, etc.)
  • Set/expansion
  • Special abilities or keywords

Fleet Building

When you equip upgrades from a different faction than your ship:
  • Most upgrades cost +1 SP as a faction penalty
  • Some cards have specific faction penalties listed on the card
  • Universal cards (no faction symbol) have no penalty
  • Some abilities and resources can reduce or eliminate faction penalties
Utopia tracks these upgrade slot types:
  • Elite Talent - Requires captain with talent icon
  • Crew - Personnel upgrades
  • Weapon - Torpedo, mine, and weapon systems
  • Tech - Technology and sensor upgrades
  • Borg - Borg-specific upgrades
  • Squadron - Fighter squadron upgrades
Yes, you can mix factions in your fleet. However:
  • Each ship pays faction penalties for non-matching upgrades
  • Some tournament formats may restrict faction mixing
  • Independent faction cards can be mixed more freely
  • Resources like Fleet Captain can make captains dual-faction
Cards marked as Unique (indicated by a special symbol) can only appear once in your entire fleet. Utopia will prevent you from adding duplicate unique cards.
Mirror Universe cards represent alternate versions of characters and ships from the Mirror Universe. They:
  • Are treated as separate cards from their prime universe counterparts
  • Can be used alongside the prime version (both can be in same fleet)
  • Have their own unique restrictions

Card Database

The Utopia card database is maintained by the community and includes:
  • All official WizKids releases
  • Organized Play (OP) cards
  • Prize and promotional cards
  • Errata and official rulings are incorporated when available

  2. Select the expansion or wave you want to view
  3. All cards from that set will be displayed
  4. Click any card for detailed information

  • Ships: Attack, Agility, Hull, Shields, Actions, Upgrade slots
  • Captains: Skill number, Talent slots, Special abilities

Use the advanced search with text filters to find cards containing specific keywords like:
  • “Cloak”

  • “Re-roll”
  • Specific ship classes or character names

Special Rules & Mechanics

Resources are special fleet-wide cards that:
  • Typically cost 5-20 SP
  • Apply effects across your entire fleet
  • Have special rules for tournament play
  • Include Flagships, Fleet Captains, Command Tokens, etc.
  • Most formats allow only one resource per fleet
Attack Squadrons (fighters) have special rules:
  • Cannot equip upgrades or captains
  • Use squadron tokens that decrease as they take damage
  • Have restricted attack range (usually Range 1-2)
  • Cannot benefit from resource cards
  • Cannot use Fleet Actions
Borg Captains operate differently:
  • Skill equals number of Borg Drone Tokens
  • When disabled, skill becomes 1 (regardless of tokens)
  • Drone tokens can be spent even when captain is disabled
  • Maximum tokens determined by captain card
The Rule of 3 limits stat modifications:
  • You cannot modify any stat by more than +3 or -3
  • This applies to Attack, Agility, Hull, Shields, Captain Skill
  • Replacement effects (“set to” or “treat as”) are not modifiers
  • Cards that say “at +1” are considered modifiers
Admirals provide fleet-wide benefits:
  • Only one Admiral per fleet (unless special rules apply)
  • Replace discarded/disabled Captains
  • Provide skill bonus when replacing captain
  • Some have Fleet Actions usable by any friendly ship
  • Cannot satisfy “requires X faction Captain” requirements
