This guide walks you through the full onboarding flow for FinkiOpenDesk — from creating an account to posting your first comment and exploring career roadmaps. Follow the steps below to get up and running on the platform.
FinkiOpenDesk supports two registration types. Student registration requires email activation and lets you associate a study program with your account. General user registration gives you immediate access without email verification. Choose the path that fits your situation.

Create an account and start exploring

1

Register at /register

Navigate to https://finkiopendesk.onrender.com/register.You will see a registration form where you choose between registering as a student or a general user:
  • Student: Enter your academic email address and submit. You will receive an activation email with a link to set your password.
  • General user: Fill in your name, email, and password. Your account is created immediately — no activation step required.
2

Activate your student account (students only)

Check your inbox for an activation email from FinkiOpenDesk. Click the activation link, which takes you to /register/activate.On that page, set your password to complete the activation. Once activated, your account is ready to use.
The activation link is sent via SendGrid and may take a minute or two to arrive. Check your spam folder if you do not see it. Without completing activation, you will not be able to log in as a student.
3

Log in at /login

Go to /login and enter your email and password. On successful login, the server issues a JWT that your browser stores and sends with subsequent requests. If you registered as a general user, you can log in immediately. If you registered as a student, you must complete activation first.
4

Select your study program (students only)

After logging in as a student, you are prompted to select your study program. FinkiOpenDesk uses your program selection to highlight the subjects relevant to your curriculum. You can update your program selection later from your profile settings.
5

Browse subjects at /subjects

Go to /subjects to see a list of all available FCSE subjects. Each subject card shows its name and links to its discussion page.Use your selected program as a filter to see only the subjects in your curriculum, or browse all subjects to explore outside your program.
6

Open a subject discussion and read comments

Click any subject card to open its discussion at /discussion/sid/:id. You will see the subject’s discussion thread and a list of channels.Select a channel (for example, “Exam questions” or “Resources”) to navigate to that channel’s focused discussion at /discussion/cid/:id.
7

Post a comment

Inside a channel discussion, type your comment in the input field and submit. Your comment appears in the thread immediately and other users can reply to it.When someone replies to your comment, you receive a notification in the notification panel.
8

Explore the career guide at /careers

Navigate to /careers or /professions to browse professions available to FCSE graduates. Each profession card shows its title and links to its roadmap.Open a profession’s roadmap at /subjects/pid/:pid to see the subjects mapped to that role along with community-voted relevance scores.
