Overview

Proper maintenance of your MotionTech electric vehicle ensures optimal performance, extends battery life, and keeps you safe on the road. This guide covers essential maintenance procedures for both electric motorcycles and tricycles.
Establish a regular maintenance schedule to prevent issues before they occur. Most maintenance tasks can be performed by the owner, but consult a certified technician for complex repairs.

Battery Care

LifePO4 Battery Maintenance

Your vehicle is equipped with a LifePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery system that requires specific care:
1

Regular Inspection

Check the battery casing monthly for any signs of damage, swelling, or corrosion on terminals. Clean terminals with a dry cloth if needed.
2

Keep Connections Tight

Ensure all battery connections are secure but not over-tightened. Loose connections can cause performance issues and potential safety hazards.
3

Monitor Battery Health

Pay attention to charging times and range. Significant deviations from normal performance may indicate battery degradation.
4

Temperature Management

Store your vehicle in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposing the battery to extreme temperatures (below 0°C or above 45°C) for extended periods.
Never attempt to open or repair the battery pack yourself. Contact authorized service centers for battery-related issues. Improper handling can result in fire, explosion, or electric shock.

Battery Storage

If you plan to store your vehicle for more than two weeks:
  • Charge the battery to 50-60% capacity
  • Disconnect the battery if storing for over a month
  • Recharge every 2-3 months during long-term storage
  • Store in a temperature-controlled environment (15-25°C)

Tire Maintenance

Regular Tire Checks

1

Check Tire Pressure

Inspect tire pressure weekly. Proper pressure varies by model:
  • C-400/C-800 Tricycles: Front: 35 PSI, Rear: 40 PSI
  • LT 4201/4209 Motorcycles: Front: 32 PSI, Rear: 36 PSI
2

Inspect Tread Depth

Check tread depth monthly. Replace tires when tread depth falls below 2mm. Uneven wear may indicate alignment issues.
3

Look for Damage

Examine tires for cuts, punctures, bulges, or embedded objects. Remove debris carefully and assess damage.
4

Rotate Tires

For tricycles, rotate tires every 2,000 km to ensure even wear and extend tire life.
Keep spare R12 tires on hand, especially for tricycles used for commercial purposes. Parts ITL Corp offers genuine R12 x 450 and 3.5-12 tires with matching tubes.

Electronic Component Checks

Display and Controls

  • Weekly: Test all lights (headlight, taillight, brake lights, turn signals)
  • Weekly: Verify display functions correctly (battery indicator, speed, odometer)
  • Monthly: Check horn and other electronic accessories
  • Monthly: Inspect wiring for wear, especially near moving parts

Motor and Controller

1

Listen for Unusual Sounds

During rides, pay attention to any new or unusual sounds from the motor. Grinding, clicking, or squealing may indicate issues.
2

Check for Overheating

After long rides, check if the motor is excessively hot. Some warmth is normal, but it should be touchable.
3

Inspect Motor Connections

Monthly, visually inspect motor connections for looseness or corrosion. Do not disconnect unless necessary.
4

Monitor Performance

Track acceleration and top speed. Noticeable decreases may indicate controller or motor issues.
Never operate the vehicle with the motor cover removed. Do not attempt to service the motor or controller yourself. These components contain high-voltage circuits that require specialized tools and expertise.

Brake System

Brake Maintenance Schedule

1

Test Brake Function

Before each ride, test both front and rear brakes. They should engage smoothly and bring the vehicle to a complete stop.
2

Check Brake Pads

Inspect brake pads every 500 km. Replace when pad thickness is below 3mm.
3

Adjust Brake Cables

If brakes feel loose or require excessive lever travel, adjust brake cable tension. Consult your owner’s manual for specific procedures.
4

Bleed Hydraulic Brakes

For models with hydraulic brakes, have the system bled by a professional every 12 months or if brakes feel spongy.

Suspension and Steering

Tricycles (C-400, C-800)

  • Weekly: Check for excessive play in steering
  • Monthly: Inspect suspension springs for damage or sagging
  • Every 1,000 km: Lubricate steering bearings and suspension pivot points
  • Every 3,000 km: Have steering alignment checked professionally

Motorcycles (LT 4201, LT 4209)

  • Weekly: Test front fork responsiveness
  • Monthly: Check for oil leaks from fork seals
  • Every 2,000 km: Lubricate rear swing arm pivot
  • Every 5,000 km: Replace fork oil (professional service recommended)

Cleaning and Protection

1

Regular Cleaning

Wash your vehicle every 2-4 weeks using mild soap and water. Avoid high-pressure washers near electrical components.
2

Dry Thoroughly

After washing or riding in rain, dry electrical connections and display screens to prevent corrosion.
3

Lubricate Moving Parts

Apply appropriate lubricant to chain (if equipped), hinges, and locks monthly.
4

Protect from Elements

Use a breathable cover when parking outdoors. Avoid plastic covers that trap moisture.
For tricycles used in commercial applications (delivery, cargo transport), increase inspection frequency due to higher wear rates from heavy loads.

Common Issues and Solutions

Reduced Range

  • Check tire pressure (low pressure increases resistance)
  • Verify battery health and charging habits
  • Reduce payload if consistently overloaded
  • Check for dragging brakes

Unusual Noises

  • Squealing: Usually brake-related, check pads and adjustment
  • Clicking: Inspect loose components, especially cargo area fasteners (tricycles)
