When a school’s content filter blocks a site like YouTube or Reddit, it typically does so by domain name — it has youtube.com on a blocklist, not every possible URL that serves similar content. Alternative and mirror frontends exploit that gap by serving the same content through a completely different domain. A Piped instance at piped.video fetches YouTube videos and streams them to you; your school’s filter only sees a request to piped.video, which hasn’t been added to the blocklist yet. The catch is that as these alternatives become popular, they get blocked too. Check back for updated links, or use a proxy from the Proxies page as a fallback.
If an alternative site gets blocked mid-session, try its Google Translate link: prefix the URL with https://translate.google.com/translate?u= and Google’s translation proxy will fetch it for you. Similarly, Wayback Machine cached versions at web.archive.org can sometimes load content from blocked domains.

Google Sites Hubs

Google Sites (sites.google.com) is typically whitelisted by school IT departments because it’s a Google product used for legitimate school projects. Savvy students have exploited this by building unblocker hubs — pages that embed games or link to proxies — hosted directly on Google Sites, where blocking the URL would also break legitimate classroom pages.
