The Binary Internals Web Server exposes the same file-parsing engine as the desktop viewer through a browser UI and an HTTP API. You can upload any supported binary file and receive a JSON tree that describes every field, its byte offset, its length, and a human-readable description. This page covers how to start the server and make your first API call.

Start the Server

Run the following two commands from the repository root. The first builds the image; the second starts the container with a read-only filesystem, a small tmpfs for uploads, and resource limits to contain a runaway parse.
Open http://localhost:8080 in your browser to verify the server is running.

Parse a File with the API

Once the server is running, send the raw file content as the POST body with the filename as the name query parameter:
The --compressed flag requests gzip encoding. The response is a JSON tree representing the parsed file structure.
Uploaded files are written to a temporary file only for the duration of parsing. The temporary file is deleted immediately after the parse completes, regardless of whether it succeeded or failed.

Response Structure

Each node in the returned JSON tree has the following shape:

Error Responses

When parsing fails, the server returns a JSON error object:
