Spectrum 2.4GHz can be installed in two ways: end users can grab the prebuilt APK directly from the GitHub Releases page, while developers who want to modify or debug the app can clone the repository and build it from source using Android Studio. Both paths are covered below, along with the system requirements that apply to either method.

System Requirements

Before installing, confirm that your device or development environment meets the following requirements:
RequirementDetail
Android versionAndroid 6.0 Marshmallow or newer
Minimum SDKAPI Level 23
Target SDKAPI Level 34 (Android 14)
Compile SDKAPI Level 34
Java version (build only)Java 8 (VERSION_1_8)
Android Studio (build only)Hedgehog (2023.1.1) or newer recommended

Installation Methods

Downloading the prebuilt APK is the fastest way to get Spectrum 2.4GHz running. No development tools are required.
Installing an APK from outside the Google Play Store is called sideloading. Android blocks this by default to protect users. You must explicitly grant permission to install unknown apps — this is typically a one-time setting scoped to the browser or file manager you use to open the APK. Enabling this setting only for the specific installer app (rather than system-wide) is recommended for security.
1

Open the GitHub Releases page

Navigate to the Spectrum 2.4GHz v1.0.0 release on your Android device or desktop browser:
https://github.com/anfegomezver/spectrum24ghz/releases/tag/v1.0.0
You can also find the link in the repository’s Releases panel on the right-hand sidebar of the GitHub repo page.
2

Download the APK file

Scroll to the Assets section at the bottom of the release notes. Tap or click the file ending in .apk (for example, app-debug.apk or Spectrum24GHz_v1.0.0.apk) to begin the download. If you are downloading on a desktop, transfer the .apk file to your Android device via USB, Google Drive, or any file-sharing method you prefer.
3

Enable installation from Unknown Sources

When you open the downloaded APK, Android will prompt you with a security warning. The exact wording varies by Android version:
  • Android 8.0+: Tap Settings in the prompt, then toggle Allow from this source for the app you used to open the file (e.g., Chrome, Files).
  • Android 6–7: Go to Settings → Security → Unknown sources and enable it.
Once enabled, press the Back button to return to the installer.
4

Complete the installation

Tap Install on the Android installer screen and wait for the installation to finish. Tap Open to launch Spectrum 2.4GHz immediately, or Done to find it in your app drawer later. On first launch the app will request location permissions required for Wi-Fi scanning — see the Permissions page for details.
