What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that enables AI assistants to connect to external data sources and tools. JobSpy’s MCP server exposes two tools:scrape_jobs— Search for jobs across multiple job boardsfetch_job— Get full details for a specific job by ID
Prerequisites
- Node.js 18+ installed
- Claude Desktop or another MCP-compatible client
- JobSpy JS installed globally or locally (
npm install -g jobspy-jsornpm install jobspy-js)
For Google Jobs scraping, you must also install Playwright’s Chromium browser:

The
npx -y jobspy-js --mcp approach automatically uses the latest version or installs it if not present. For production use, consider pinning to a specific version.In Claude Desktop, you should see a small hammer icon (🔨) or tool indicator when JobSpy tools are available. Try asking:

Some job boards (especially LinkedIn) may require authentication for reliable scraping. - Verify the config file path is correct
- Check that the JSON syntax is valid (no trailing commas, proper quotes)
- Ensure Node.js is in your system PATH
- Try restarting Claude Desktop completely (quit and reopen)
- Check Claude Desktop logs (Help → View Logs)
