Quick help

Before reaching out, try these quick troubleshooting steps:

Command not found

If you see “Command not found: drift” after installation:
source ~/.bashrc # or ~/.zshrc
Or simply restart your terminal.

Update fails

If the /update command fails, manually download and install the latest .deb package from the releases page.

Permission denied

Ensure you have proper permissions. The installer may need sudo access for system-wide installation.

Built-in help

Get help information in two ways:
# From your terminal (before launching Drift)
drift --help

# Inside Drift CLI interactive prompt
drift> /help
Both commands provide comprehensive help and examples specific to your version.

About Drift

Drift was born out of a simple observation: robotics development is incredibly powerful but unnecessarily complex. We built Drift because we believe robotics should be accessible to everyone—from students taking their first steps into ROS, to experienced engineers who just want to move faster. This tool is our gift to the robotics community. We hope it saves you time, reduces frustration, and lets you focus on what really matters: building amazing robots. Whether you’re:
  • A student learning ROS for the first time
  • A researcher iterating on novel algorithms
  • An engineer developing production systems
  • A hobbyist bringing your robot dreams to life
Drift is here to help you succeed.
