Daily GeoGame is a daily geography guessing game where you identify a mystery country using hints, distance feedback, and an interactive map.

Objective

Guess the mystery country in 6 tries or fewer. Each day at midnight UTC, a new country is selected.

Game walkthrough

1

Enter your first guess

Type a country name in the input field. As you type, autocomplete suggestions appear showing up to 10 matching countries. Use arrow keys to navigate suggestions, Tab to autocomplete, or Enter to submit.
All guesses must be valid country names from the game’s database. Invalid entries will be rejected.
2

Review the feedback

After submitting a guess, you’ll receive multiple types of feedback:
  • Distance: How far your guess is from the target country (in kilometers)
  • Direction: A rotating arrow showing the bearing from your guess to the target
  • Connection indicator: Visual icon showing your proximity:
    • Green checkmark: Correct answer
    • Yellow pin: Neighboring country (shares a border)
    • Orange globe: Same subregion
    • Red globe: Same continent/region
3

Unlock a new hint

Each guess unlocks one hint. The first hint is available immediately before any guesses. Hints include:
  • Climate data
  • Terrain information
  • GDP and economic indicators
  • Population statistics
  • Geographic features
  • Cultural and historical facts
All hints are sourced from the CIA World Factbook.
4

Check the map

The interactive map updates after each guess:
  • Your guessed countries are highlighted
  • Neighboring countries (borders) are shown
  • Zoom and pan to explore regions
Use the map to narrow down your search by examining which countries border your guesses.
5

Make strategic guesses

Use the distance, direction, and hints to triangulate the target country’s location. You have up to 6 guesses total.
6

Win or reveal

  • Win: Guess the correct country before using all 6 tries
  • Game over: After 6 incorrect guesses, the answer is revealed
Either way, all hints unlock when the game ends.

Understanding feedback

Distance display

The distance appears in kilometers next to each incorrect guess. Distances closer than 2,000 km are highlighted in orange to indicate you’re getting warm.

Direction arrow

The blue arrow rotates to point from your guess toward the target country. The arrow uses bearing angles calculated from the geographic centers (latitude/longitude) of each country.

Connection icons

Each guess shows an icon indicating your proximity:
You’ve found the mystery country. Congratulations!
Your guess shares a land border with the target country. This is the strongest clue besides a correct answer.
Your guess is in the same subregion (e.g., “Central Europe” or “Southeast Asia”).
Your guess is on the same continent or major region (e.g., “Europe” or “Asia”).

Winning conditions

You win by correctly guessing the country name. The game matches your input against the country’s common name (case-insensitive). For example, “United States” matches “United States of America.”
If you’re close but can’t guess the exact country, use the neighbor highlighting on the map to identify border countries.

When hints unlock

Hints follow a progressive unlock system:
  • Before any guesses: 1 hint available
  • After guess 1: 2 hints unlocked
  • After guess 2: 3 hints unlocked
  • After guess 3: 4 hints unlocked
  • After guess 4: 5 hints unlocked
  • After guess 5: 6 hints unlocked
  • After guess 6 or winning: All hints revealed
Each hint package contains multiple related hints (e.g., the “Geography” package might include terrain, climate, and natural resources).

Daily reset

A new mystery country is selected every day at midnight UTC. Your progress is saved automatically to your session, so you can close the browser and return later without losing your guesses.
Stats are saved locally and synced anonymously via a session ID. No login required.
