Nook includes a comprehensive set of keyboard shortcuts that you can customize to match your workflow. Access the shortcuts settings via Nook > Settings > Shortcuts or press Cmd+, and select the Shortcuts tab.

Managing shortcuts

Customize a shortcut

  1. Open Settings > Shortcuts
  2. Find the action you want to customize
  3. Click the key combination field
  4. Press your desired key combination
  5. The shortcut is saved automatically
You can enable/disable individual shortcuts using the toggle on the right.

Reset to defaults

Click Reset to Defaults in the shortcuts settings to restore all shortcuts to their original key combinations.

Conflict detection

Nook prevents you from assigning the same key combination to multiple actions. If a conflict is detected, you’ll be prompted to choose a different combination.

Website shortcut detection

Many websites define their own keyboard shortcuts. When enabled, Nook can detect conflicts:
  1. First press - Passes the shortcut to the website
  2. Second press (within timeout) - Executes the Nook action

Tips for effective shortcuts

Start with the defaults - Nook’s default shortcuts are designed to feel familiar if you’ve used other browsers.
Use categories as a guide - When customizing, keep related actions in the same modifier pattern (e.g., all tab actions with Cmd).
Reserve common keys - Avoid overriding standard macOS shortcuts like Cmd+C (copy) and Cmd+V (paste).
Test your changes - After customizing shortcuts, try them in actual browsing to ensure they feel natural.

Advanced: Key combination format

Shortcuts support these modifiers:
  • ⌘ Command - Primary modifier for most shortcuts
  • ⌥ Option - Alternative actions
  • ⌃ Control - Navigation and system-level actions
  • ⇧ Shift - Reverse or enhanced versions of actions
You can combine multiple modifiers (e.g., Cmd+Shift+R for hard reload).

Special keys

Function keys and special keys can be used without modifiers:
  • F1-F12
  • Escape
  • Delete
  • Home/End
  • Page Up/Down
  • Arrow keys
  • Tab
  • Return
  • Space
Regular letter and number keys require at least one modifier to prevent conflicts with typing.
