Orthemology is a proposed theory of how concrete cases get correctly classified, handled, and audited by rule-governed processes — human, institutional, or automated. It provides a precise, machine-checkable architecture that separates what was decided from how well the process ran, enabling independent auditing of both result correctness and pathway adequacy on a single structured record.
Research-stage draft (R6, 2026-07-20). Not peer reviewed. No empirical experiment has validated the framework. All coined terminology (orthemma, ortheme, metaortheme, metaorthemma, orthing) is benchmark-gated and not yet adopted. See Project Status for full details.

Orthemology is built around two foundational insights that drive everything else in the framework.

Result ≠ Pathway

An episode’s result can be correct while the process that produced it was defective — and a well-run process can still miss a rare case. These axes are independent and separately auditable.

Analysis-Relative Ground Truth

Which state-types a case truly instantiates is defined relative to a declared, versioned analysis. Ground truth is never task-only and never actor-relative.
