The VBB Telegram Bot uses saved addresses to quickly plan your journeys. You can configure a home address and a default destination address, and manage multiple addresses for different use cases.

Address types

The bot supports two main address types:
  • Home Address: Your starting point for most journeys (typically your residence)
  • Destination Address: Your most frequent destination (typically your workplace)
You must configure at least a home address and a destination address during registration before you can use the journey planning features.

Initial address setup

During your first use of the bot, you’ll go through a registration process:
1

Enter home address

Provide your home address in the format: Street name house_number, postal_code CityExample: Alexanderplatz 1, 10178 Berlin
2

Confirm home address

The bot will resolve your address and show you the details including:
  • Street name and number
  • City and postal code
  • Coordinates (latitude/longitude)
Confirm if the information is correct.
3

Enter destination address

Provide your default destination address using the same format.
4

Confirm destination address

Review and confirm the resolved destination address.
5

Complete registration

Review both addresses and confirm to complete the setup.
Use the full address format including postal code and city for the most accurate results.

Managing existing addresses

After initial setup, you can view and manage your addresses through the address management interface.

Viewing your addresses

Access the addresses menu to see all your saved addresses. Each address displays:
  • The full address text
  • Current usage type (Home/Destination/No Use)
  • Expand/collapse option for details

Changing address usage

You can reassign how each saved address is used:
1

Open address details

Click on an address to expand its details.
2

Select new usage type

Choose from:
  • Home Address: Use as your journey starting point
  • Destination Address: Use as your default destination
  • No Use: Keep the address saved but not actively used
3

Confirm change

The address usage is updated immediately.
You can only have one home address and one destination address active at a time. If you assign a new address as home, the previous home address automatically changes to “No Use”.

Adding new addresses

1

Access address management

Navigate to the addresses section from the main menu.
2

Click Add Address

Select the “Add address” button.
3

Enter address

Type the address in the format: Street name house_number, postal_code City
4

Confirm details

Review the resolved address information and confirm.
5

Assign usage type

Choose how you want to use this address (Home/Destination/No Use).

Address data structure

Each saved address includes:
  • Street name: The street name portion of the address
  • House number: Building number
  • City: City name (typically within Berlin-Brandenburg)
  • Postal code (PLZ): German postal code
  • Coordinates: Latitude and longitude for precise location
  • Created by: User ID of the owner
Coordinates are automatically resolved from your address and used for finding nearby public transport stops.

Address usage in journey planning

When you request journeys:
  1. The bot uses your home address as the starting point
  2. The bot uses your destination address as the endpoint
  3. The system finds the nearest public transport stops to both addresses
  4. Journey options are calculated between these stops
Walking distance and time to/from stops are included in the total journey time based on your configured walking speed.

Editing addresses

Currently, addresses cannot be edited directly. To change an address:
  1. Add a new address with the correct information
  2. Assign it the desired usage type (Home/Destination)
  3. The old address will automatically become “No Use”

Best practices

Even if you don’t use an address as your default home or destination, save it for future use. You can easily switch between saved addresses without re-entering information.
If you move or change workplace, update your home and destination addresses to ensure accurate journey planning.
Include house numbers and postal codes for the most accurate stop matching and walking directions.
