You keep the bot’s secrets and connection settings in a .env file at the project root. The bot loads that file with python-dotenv, and the modular startup path in bot.py reads the values during startup.

What to remember

  • Keep .env out of version control.
  • Update LAVALINK_URI and LAVALINK_PASSWORD together whenever you change the Lavalink host or password.
  • The default values are safe for the provided Docker setup, but you should override them when you deploy the bot to another machine.
