Metrolist works only in countries where YouTube Music is available. If YouTube Music is not available in your region, the app will not be able to search, stream, or load your home feed without a VPN or proxy connecting to a supported region.

No. You can browse, search, and play music without signing in. A YouTube Music account is optional, but logging in unlocks additional features:
  • Syncing your liked songs, playlists, and subscribed artists
  • Accessing your listening history
  • Subscribing to podcasts and channels

Metrolist ships three build variants:If you do not need to cast audio to a Chromecast or Google-compatible speaker, the FOSS build is the recommended choice. The GMS build requires Google Play Services to be installed on your device.

Build variants

Full details on each variant and how to build them.
The most common cause is regional unavailability. If YouTube Music is not offered in your country, Metrolist cannot stream content.Steps to diagnose:
  1. Confirm your internet connection is working.
  2. Open a browser and check whether music.youtube.com loads in your country.
  3. If the site is unavailable, connect to a VPN server in a supported region, then reopen Metrolist.
If YouTube Music is available in your region but Metrolist still fails, check the GitHub Issues page for known problems.
Metrolist does not distribute through the Google Play Store. Updates are available through the following channels:
  • GitHub Releases — download the latest APK manually from the releases page.
  • Obtainium — tracks GitHub releases and notifies you when a new version is available, with one-tap installation.
  • IzzyOnDroid — an F-Droid-compatible repository that hosts Metrolist and delivers updates through the F-Droid client.
The IzzyOnDroid variant disables the built-in updater because the IzzyOnDroid repository manages updates directly.
Metrolist is not officially integrated with YouTube Premium. It communicates with YouTube Music via the InnerTube API — the same internal API that the official YouTube Music app uses — so playback behavior may vary. YouTube Premium benefits such as ad-free streaming and background play are not explicitly supported or guaranteed through Metrolist.
All data is stored locally on your device. This includes:
  • Your local playlists and library
  • Listening history and statistics
  • Downloaded and cached songs
  • App settings and preferences
  • Your account session cookie (if logged in)
Nothing is sent to Metrolist’s servers. Your account login flow connects directly to Google’s authentication pages.
Metrolist is not listed in the official F-Droid repository. It is available on IzzyOnDroid, which is an F-Droid-compatible third-party repository. You can add IzzyOnDroid to your F-Droid client and install Metrolist from there, or download the APK directly from apt.izzysoft.de.
Open an issue on the GitHub repository. Before filing, search existing issues to avoid duplicates. When reporting a bug, include:
  • Your Metrolist version (found in Settings → About)
  • Your Android version and device model
  • Steps to reproduce the problem
  • The crash log from Settings → About, if available
Yes. You can clone the repository and build Metrolist yourself. API keys for services such as Last.fm are read from a local.properties file or environment variables at build time, so you can supply your own credentials without modifying the source code.

Development setup

Step-by-step guide to setting up a local build environment.
  1. Check the GitHub Issues page to see if the crash is already reported.
  2. If it is not, open a new issue and include:
    • Your Metrolist version from Settings → About
    • Your Android version and device model
    • A description of what you were doing when the crash occurred
    • The crash log from Settings → About, if one is available
  3. If the crash prevents you from opening the app, a logcat capture via ADB (adb logcat) is the most useful diagnostic tool.
Clearing app data will delete your local playlists and listening history. Only do this as a last resort, and make a backup first if possible.
