Profiles

Search other user profiles using the profile search filter.
Tap any result to open it. Tap a song to start playing immediately.

Player controls

Tap the mini-player bar at the bottom of the screen to open the full player. The player provides the following controls: Swipe left or right on the album art to skip tracks without opening the full player.

Background playback

Metrolist runs as a foreground service, so music keeps playing when:
  • You turn the screen off
  • You switch to another app
  • You lock the device
Playback continues until you explicitly pause it or the sleep timer fires.

Lock screen and notification controls

When a song is playing, Metrolist shows a persistent media notification with play/pause, previous, and next controls. On supported devices, the same controls appear on the lock screen through Android’s Media Session integration.
The notification also displays the current song title, artist, and album art. You can interact with it without unlocking your device.

Sleep timer

The sleep timer automatically pauses playback after a set time. There are two ways to use it.

Manual sleep timer

Open the player and tap the sleep timer icon (clock) to start a one-off timer.
1

Open the sleep timer dialog

Tap the clock icon in the player controls.
2

Choose a duration

Set the number of minutes, or select End of song to stop after the current track finishes.
3

Optionally enable stop after current song on timeout

Toggle Stop after current song so that when the timer fires, Metrolist finishes the current track before pausing instead of cutting off mid-song.
4

Optionally enable fade-out

Toggle Fade out to gradually reduce volume over the last 60 seconds before the timer fires (or over the remaining duration of the current song when using End of song mode).

Automatic sleep timer

Configure a recurring sleep timer schedule under Settings → Player & Audio → Sleep timer.
  • Daily — activates every day between a start and end time (e.g., 22:00 to 06:00).
  • Custom — choose specific days of the week, each with its own start and end time window.
Enable the automatic sleep timer with a 22:00 start time for hands-free bedtime listening. Combine it with Fade out so the music fades to silence rather than stopping abruptly.

Music alarm

Added in v13.4.0, the music alarm lets you schedule Metrolist to start playing music at a specific time — useful as a wake-up alarm or a scheduled listening reminder.
1

Open the alarm settings

Go to Settings → Player & Audio → Alarm to access the music alarm scheduler.
2

Add an alarm

Tap Add alarm and set the time using the time picker. Choose the days of the week the alarm should repeat.
3

Select a playlist

Pick a local playlist to play when the alarm fires. You can also enable Random mode to shuffle the playlist.
4

Grant permissions

The alarm requires the Schedule exact alarms permission on Android 12 and later. Metrolist will prompt you to grant it from the system settings. Disabling battery optimization for Metrolist is also recommended so the alarm fires reliably.
The music alarm is separate from the sleep timer. The sleep timer stops playback after a set duration; the music alarm starts playback at a scheduled time.

Skip silence

When enabled, Metrolist detects and skips over silent segments within a track using ExoPlayer’s SilenceSkippingAudioProcessor. Enable it under Settings → Player → Skip silence. An additional Skip silence instantly sub-option skips silence without a gradual transition. This option is only available when Skip silence is already on.

Audio quality

Go to Settings → Player → Audio quality to choose between:
  • Auto — selects the best format available given your current connection (default)
  • High — always requests the highest available bitrate
  • Low — requests a lower bitrate to reduce data usage
The selected quality applies to both streaming and downloads. See Audio settings for related options such as audio normalization, crossfade, and the equalizer.

Google Cast / Chromecast

Google Cast is only available in the GMS (Google Mobile Services) build of Metrolist. It is not included in the FOSS or F-Droid builds.
If you installed the GMS build, you can enable Cast support under Settings → Player → Google Cast. Once enabled, a Cast icon appears in the player when a Chromecast or Cast-compatible device is detected on your network. Tap it to route audio to that device.

Additional player settings

Smoothly blend the end of one track into the start of the next. Enable it under Settings → Player → Crossfade and set a duration between 1 and 15 seconds. A gapless option is also available to remove silence between tracks without audible overlap.Note: audio offload is automatically disabled when crossfade is active.
Levels the volume across tracks so loud songs do not sound louder than quieter ones. Enabled by default under Settings → Player → Audio normalization.
Offloads audio decoding to dedicated hardware, which can reduce battery consumption during long listening sessions. Enable it under Settings → Player → Audio offload. Not available when crossfade is on.
Automatically downloads a song to local storage whenever you like it. Enable under Settings → Player & Audio → Auto-download on like.
Automatically resumes playback when a Bluetooth audio device connects. Enable under Settings → Player & Audio → Resume on Bluetooth connect.
Pauses playback when the device volume is set to zero. Enable under Settings → Player & Audio → Pause on mute.
