This quickstart walks you through the complete lifecycle of a single exam on ExamPlatform. By the end you will have created an administrator account, added a question to the Question Bank, scheduled and published an exam, experienced the student-facing exam session, and reviewed the results. Each step below maps to a real workflow in the platform; follow them in order for the fastest path from zero to a live, proctored exam.
Before starting an exam as a student, make sure your browser has permission to access your camera and microphone. ExamPlatform requires both for AI-proctored sessions. Go to your browser’s site settings and set both to Allowed, then reload the page. If either device shows as Blocked on the instructions page, the Start Exam button will be disabled until you grant access.

Create an exam draft

Navigate to Exam Management and click New Exam. Complete the exam form:

Evaluation workflow toggles:
  • Enable AI evaluation for subjective answers — The platform runs an AI first-pass grading suggestion on Short answer, Long answer, and Image upload responses before the examiner reviews them.
  • Allow manual examiner review — Routes subjective responses to the Evaluation & Results queue after the AI first-pass, so the examiner can accept, adjust, or override the AI suggestion.
After filling in the form, click Create Exam (draft). The exam is saved in draft state and is not visible to students yet.Next, select questions from the question bank for the chosen subject. Use Select all or tick individual questions; only selected questions will appear in the live exam. Click Save to confirm the question selection.
4

Assign students and publish

With your draft exam open in Exam Management, click Assign next to the exam. A student-search panel opens — search by name, email, or roll number and select the students who should sit this exam. Click Assign students to confirm. When you are ready for the exam to go live, click Publish. The exam status changes from draft to published and becomes visible in the assigned students’ Exam Schedule and My Exams pages at the configured start time. You can monitor all running sessions in real time from the Live Monitoring page, which refreshes automatically every 10 seconds and shows each student’s current question, time remaining, tab-switch count, AI risk level, and last heartbeat.
5

Take the exam (student perspective)

When the exam window opens, the student navigates to My Exams, locates the exam, and clicks Start Exam.Instructions page — before the exam begins:The student first sees a pre-exam instructions screen that covers:
  • A notice that the exam is AI-proctored and that the webcam and microphone will be monitored for the full duration.
  • A warning that fullscreen mode is required — exiting fullscreen is logged and may affect the integrity score.
  • A reminder that copying, pasting, right-clicking, and printing are disabled.
  • Confirmation that the timer is server-controlled and the exam will auto-submit when time expires.
  • A Device check panel showing the camera and microphone permission status (Allowed / Blocked / Will prompt on start).
  • A live camera preview labelled Recording.
  • Any exam-specific instructions written by the examiner.
  • An agreement checkbox: “I have read the instructions and agree to be AI-proctored for the duration of this exam.”
The student must tick the agreement checkbox before the Start Exam button becomes active.During the exam:
  • A Question Palette on the side shows all question numbers colour-coded by status: Not visited, Not answered, Answered, Marked for review, Answered & marked, and the current question.
  • Each question displays its text, optional illustration, and the appropriate answer input for its type:
    • MCQ: radio buttons for each option.
    • Multi-select: checkboxes for each option.
    • Short / Long answer: a free-text area with optional minimum and maximum word count hints.
    • Image upload: a photo-upload control for a picture of handwritten work.
  • Action buttons below each question: Clear Response, Mark for Review & Next, Save & Next, and, on the final question, Submit Exam.
  • An AI Monitoring panel (minimisable) shows the live webcam feed alongside real-time status indicators for eye tracking, face detection, mobile detection, tab switches, AI risk score, internet stability, and battery level.
When the student clicks Submit Exam (or when the server timer expires), a confirmation dialog appears — “Once submitted, you cannot change your answers.” — before the session is closed.
The exam timer is enforced on the server, not the browser. If a student loses internet connectivity or closes the tab, the countdown continues. When time runs out the platform automatically submits whatever answers have been saved up to that point and displays: “Your time expired and the exam was automatically submitted.” Students should ensure a stable internet connection and a charged device before starting.
After submission the student sees a confirmation screen and can return to their dashboard. Results appear in their Results section once the examiner publishes them.
