Quark’s Building category is the heart of the mod’s decorative offering. Every module here adds new blocks or mechanics designed to expand your creative toolkit — from vertical slabs and hedges that fill long-missing gaps in vanilla’s palette, to complete new themes like the Japanese Palette, Industrial Palette, and Duskbound Blocks. Every single module is independently toggleable via the Q menu, so you can keep exactly what fits your playstyle.
All building modules can be individually enabled or disabled at any time through the in-game Q menu (default key: Q). Changes take effect without restarting the game.

Vertical Slabs

Adds a vertical variant for every horizontal slab in the game, including copper and all modded slabs registered through Quark.

Vertical Planks

Adds vertically-oriented plank blocks for every wood type, sitting right next to their horizontal counterparts in the creative menu.

Hollow Logs

Craftable hollow log blocks for every wood type; players can crawl through them.

Wooden Posts

Slim, fence-post-shaped columns for every wood type. Lanterns hang naturally from them.

Hedges

Fence-shaped leaf blocks for every overworld tree, azalea, Blossom Trees, and Ancient Wood.

Leaf Carpets

Thin, carpet-style leaf blocks for every tree type. Compostable.

Framed Glass

A glass block (and pane) with a stone frame, in clear and all 16 dye colours.

Grate

A thin iron grate placed at the top of its block space. Items and XP orbs fall through freely; animals are prevented from crossing unless leashed.

Gold Bars

Iron-bar-shaped panes made from gold. Can optionally generate inside Nether Fortresses.

Glass Item Frame

An invisible item frame that renders held items at 1.5× scale. A glowing variant is also included.

Rope

A climbable rope block you can extend downward by right-clicking with more rope. Dispensers can place and extend ropes automatically.

Stools

Dyeable, carpet-style seat blocks in all 16 colours that players and mobs can sit on.

Variant Chests

Chests and trapped chests in every wood type plus nether brick, purpur, and prismarine. Structure loot chests match their biome.

Variant Bookshelves

Bookshelves in every non-oak wood type. The vanilla oak bookshelf is optionally renamed to match.

Variant Ladders

Ladders for every non-oak wood type, plus an iron ladder from the Industrial Palette.

Variant Furnaces

A deepslate furnace and a blackstone furnace, each emitting light when lit.

Compressed Blocks

Storage blocks for items that lack them: charcoal, sticks, sugar cane, cactus, chorus fruit, apples, vegetables, cocoa beans, nether wart, gunpowder, berries, glowberries, leather, rabbit hide, and a bright Blaze Lantern.

More Stone Variants

Bricks, chiseled bricks, and pillars for granite, diorite, andesite, calcite, dripstone, and Quark’s own limestone, jasper, shale, and myalite stones.

More Brick Types

Brick blocks (with slabs, stairs, and walls) for blue nether bricks, sandstone, red sandstone, soul sandstone, cobblestone, mossy cobblestone, blackstone, dirt, and netherrack.

More Mud Blocks

Carved mud bricks, a mud pillar, and a mud brick lattice block to expand the swamp-build palette.

Soul Sandstone

Four soul-sandstone variants: plain, chiseled, cut, and smooth — each with slabs, stairs, and walls.

Raw Metal Bricks

Brick forms (with slabs, stairs, and walls) for raw iron, raw gold, and raw copper.

Shingles

Terracotta-based roof-tile shingles in every dye colour plus plain terracotta, each with slabs and stairs.

Rainbow Lamps

Glowing crystal-lamp blocks in the Corundum gem colours (or a basic rainbow palette if Corundum is disabled), all emitting full brightness.

Celebratory Lamps

Stone lamp and stone brick lamp blocks that glow at full light level (configurable).

Duskbound Blocks

Purpur-like duskbound block (with slab and stairs) and a full-brightness duskbound lantern.

Midori Blocks

A moss-green decorative block (plus pillar, slab, and stairs) crafted from a new moss paste ingredient.

Japanese Palette

Paper lanterns, paper walls (standard, big, and sakura variants), bamboo mat, and bamboo mat carpet.

Industrial Palette

Iron plates (plain and rusty), iron pillar, and iron ladder — all with slabs and stairs where applicable.

Thatch

A woven straw block with slab and stair variants. Reduces fall damage on landing by 50% (configurable). Compostable.

Sturdy Stone

A stone block that is completely immovable by pistons.

Nether Brick Fence Gate

The missing fence gate to match the vanilla nether brick fence.

Shear Vines

Right-clicking vines with shears converts them to Cut Vine — a non-spreading vine variant — and removes all vines hanging below.

More Potted Plants

Adds flower-pot variants for many vanilla plants that couldn’t be potted before, including crops, tall grass, sugar cane, vines, and sea pickles.

Stone & Masonry

Vertical Slabs

Vertical slabs are the building community’s most-requested vanilla feature. Quark adds a vertical variant for every horizontal slab — all vanilla slabs, all copper slab variants (which weather and can be waxed), and any slab registered by other Quark modules. Walls and panes optionally connect to the sides of vertical slabs (configurable).
Copper vertical slabs weather progressively from Cut Copper → Exposed → Weathered → Oxidized, and can be waxed at any stage just like regular copper slabs.

More Stone Variants

Extends the polished-stone progression with bricks, chiseled bricks, and a pillar for:
StoneNotes
Granite, Diorite, AndesiteCraft from their polished forms
Calcite, DripstoneNew polished steps are also added
Limestone, Jasper, ShaleRequires Quark’s New Stone Types module
MyaliteUses a special glowing block constructor
Each brick type also has slab, stair, and wall variants.

More Brick Types

Adds brick blocks (with slabs, stairs, and walls) for materials that never got them:
  • Blue Nether Bricks — a blue-tinted counterpart to red nether bricks
  • Sandstone Bricks, Red Sandstone Bricks, Soul Sandstone Bricks
  • Cobblestone Bricks and Mossy Cobblestone Bricks
  • Blackstone Bricks, Dirt Bricks, Netherrack Bricks
Each variant can be individually toggled in the config.

Soul Sandstone

Four variants of soul-sand-themed sandstone for Nether builds: Soul Sandstone, Chiseled Soul Sandstone, Cut Soul Sandstone, and Smooth Soul Sandstone. The first and last include slabs, stairs, and walls; Cut includes a slab.

Raw Metal Bricks

Brick-textured blocks for raw iron, raw gold, and raw copper, each with slab, stair, and wall variants. Great for factory or mining-site aesthetics.

More Mud Blocks

Three additions to the mud-brick family:
  • Carved Mud Bricks — a decorative carved variant
  • Mud Pillar — an axially-rotatable column
  • Mud Brick Lattice — an open-lattice decorative block

Sturdy Stone

A plain stone block with one unique property: pistons cannot move it. Its push reaction is BLOCK, making it ideal for piston-proof structures, puzzle locks, and piston doors that need an immovable reference point.
Sturdy Stone is also referenced by the Pistons Move Tile Entities module — when that module is active, the JEI hint for pistons mentions sturdy stone as a way to anchor contraptions.

Wood & Plants

Hollow Logs

Every vanilla and Nether wood type gets a hollow log block. The log is open on both ends along its axis, and players can crawl through it automatically when sneaking up to it (auto-crawl can be disabled). Completing a crawl through a log for the first time unlocks a hidden advancement.
1

Craft

Surround a log with four matching slabs (or use the hollow log recipe in your pack’s crafting recipe viewer).
2

Place

Place the hollow log horizontally, aligned along the axis you want to crawl through.
3

Crawl

Walk up to the opening while sneaking — your character automatically enters the crawl pose and passes through.

Wooden Posts

Slim, fence-post-shaped column blocks for every wood type (including nether woods). Each type has both a regular and a stripped variant; using an axe on a post strips it. Lanterns can hang from the bottom of posts naturally.

Hedges

Fence-shaped blocks made with leaves and fence planks for all overworld tree types, azalea, flowering azalea, Blossom Trees, and Ancient Wood (the last two require their respective world modules). Hedges inherit leaf colouring from the biome tint.

Leaf Carpets

Thin carpet-style versions of every leaf block. They inherit biome tinting, are compostable, and snap into place exactly like vanilla carpets. Blossom Tree and Ancient Wood leaf carpets are conditionally enabled on their parent modules.

Variant Bookshelves

Bookshelves in every wood type except oak (oak’s vanilla bookshelf is optionally renamed to “Oak Bookshelf” to match). Fully functional as enchanting-table bookshelves.

Shear Vines

Right-clicking a vine with shears converts it to a Cut Vine — a non-spreading, decorative vine — and removes all vines hanging below it in a single action. Cut vines share the biome tint of regular vines but will never grow or spread.

More Potted Plants

Adds flower-pot variants for plants that couldn’t be potted in vanilla:
  • Crops: beetroots, carrots, potatoes, melon stem, pumpkin stem, wheat
  • Tall plants: peony, lilac, rose bush, sunflower, pitcher plant, large fern, tall grass
  • Other: sweet berry bush, chorus flower, cocoa, short grass, nether sprouts, nether wart, sugar cane, vine, twisting vines, weeping vines, sea pickle (light level 3), cave vines (light level 14)

Thatch

A woven straw block available as a full block, slab, and stair. Landing on thatch reduces fall damage by 50% (the multiplier is configurable). Compostable at a 65% chance.

Glass & Lighting

Framed Glass

Glass blocks and panes with a decorative stone frame around the border, available in clear and all 16 dye colours. Framed glass has higher blast resistance than vanilla glass (10.0 vs 0.3).

Glass Item Frame

An invisible item frame that shows its item at 1.5× scale (configurable). A glowing glass item frame variant uses the glow-frame effect to illuminate the displayed item even in the dark. Glass frames optionally update maps displayed inside them.
Set itemRenderScale to 1.0 in the config to match the size of a vanilla item frame exactly.

Gold Bars

Iron-bar-style panes made from gold. When enabled, these can optionally replace some Nether Brick Fence segments in naturally generated Nether Fortresses.

Rainbow Lamps

Full-brightness glowing blocks themed on Quark’s Corundum gem crystals (or a standard rainbow palette if the Corundum module is off). One lamp per Corundum colour, all outputting light level 15 by default (configurable).

Celebratory Lamps

Two glowing stone blocks — Stone Lamp and Stone Brick Lamp — that emit full brightness (light level 15, configurable). Crafted similarly to sea lanterns but in stone aesthetics.

Duskbound Blocks

A purpur-themed dark block set: the Duskbound Block (with slab and stairs) and the Duskbound Lantern (full brightness). Useful for mystical or End-adjacent builds.

Structural & Utility

Vertical Planks

Planks reoriented to run vertically. Every wood type (including nether woods) gets a vertical plank block placed right after its normal planks in the creative menu.

Rope

A climbable block that hangs vertically. Right-click with more rope to extend it downward; right-click with a water bottle to waterlog it. Dispensers can place and extend ropes automatically.

Variant Chests

Chests and trapped chests in every wood type plus nether brick, purpur, and prismarine. When worldgen is enabled, loot chests inside structures are automatically swapped for a thematically matching variant (e.g., dark oak chests in woodland mansions). Variant chests can also be equipped on donkeys, mules, and llamas in place of the vanilla oak chest — the variant is preserved when the mob dies.

Variant Ladders

Ladders in every non-oak wood type (oak’s vanilla ladder is optionally renamed). Nether wood ladders are not burnable.

Variant Furnaces

Two alternative furnace blocks:
BlockBaseLight when lit
Deepslate FurnaceDeepslate13
Blackstone FurnaceBlackstone13 (soul fire themed)
Both share all functionality with the vanilla furnace.

Compressed Blocks

Storage/compact blocks for items that lack them: Pillar blocks (wood-sound, flammable): Sugar Cane, Cactus, Chorus Fruit, Stick
Crate blocks (wood-sound, flammable): Apple, Golden Apple, Potato, Carrot, Golden Carrot, Beetroot
Sack blocks (wool-sound, flammable): Cocoa Beans, Nether Wart, Gunpowder, Berry, Glowberry (emits light level 14)
Special: Charcoal Block (burns forever, 16 000 tick fuel), Blaze Lantern (burns forever, 24 000 tick fuel, light 15), Bonded Leather, Bonded Rabbit Hide
The Charcoal Block and Blaze Lantern have a “burns forever” config flag. When enabled, placing them as fuel means they will never be consumed.

Grate

A thin iron-grate block placed flush at the very top of its block space. Items and experience orbs fall through freely (they have no collision with the grate). Unleashed animals (both Animal and WaterAnimal subtypes) receive an extended collision shape that prevents them from jumping off the grate’s surface but does not let them fall through — only leashed animals behave like any other entity on the grate. It can be waterlogged or lavaloggged (lava version emits light level 15).

Stools

Dyeable seating blocks in all 16 dye colours. Players and mobs can sit on them. Shift-right-clicking a stool while holding a block item rotates or cycles its variant.

Shingles

Terracotta-based roof tiles in every dye colour (plus plain terracotta), each with a slab and stair variant. Perfect for Mediterranean, Japanese, or fantasy-cottage roofs.

Midori Blocks

Green-themed decorative blocks crafted from Moss Paste (a new ingredient). Includes the Midori Block (full block + slab + stairs) and a Midori Pillar. Moss paste is compostable.

Japanese Palette

A set of Japanese-inspired decorative blocks:

Nether Brick Fence Gate

The long-absent nether brick fence gate — the missing companion to the vanilla nether brick fence. Uses nether brick sounds and stone-level hardness.
