Quark enriches world generation with sixteen toggleable modules that add new terrain layers, underground formations, decorative vegetation, unique biomes, and quality-of-life tweaks — all without altering vanilla structures or breaking existing worlds. Every module described below can be individually enabled or disabled at any time.
All world generation modules can be toggled on or off through the in-game Q menu without requiring a restart. Changes take effect for newly generated chunks.

New Stone Types

Limestone, Jasper, Shale, and Myalite generate as large underground clusters in biome-appropriate locations across all three dimensions.

Corundum Crystals

Colourful crystal cave formations in nine colours grow from walls and ceilings, compatible with Beacon Redirection.

Blossom Trees

Five variants of flowering trees (Blue, Lavender, Orange, Yellow, Red) appear in matching biomes and provide a full wood set.

Spiral Spires

Tall twisted spires of Myalite Crystal erupt from End Highlands and act as teleportation viaducts.

Glimmering Weald

A new underground cave biome lit by Glow Shrooms and Glow Lichen Growth, home to Stonelings.

Monster Boxes

Hidden underground blocks that release waves of mobs when a player comes near, with bonus loot drops.

Ancient Wood

Ashen-white Ancient Trees found via Sniffer or Ancient City loot, producing Ancient Fruit that grants experience.

Fairy Rings

Naturally occurring mushroom circles in forests and plains that place ore blocks in the ground beneath them.

New Terrain

Permafrost

Permafrost generates underground within the Frozen Peaks biome, appearing in large pockets between Y 105 and Y 140. It is a light-blue stone-type block with 10 blast resistance, suitable for building. Quark also registers Permafrost Bricks, and both blocks come with full slab, stair, and wall variants. New blocks: permafrost, permafrost_bricks (plus slabs, stairs, walls for each)

No More Lava Pockets

This module suppresses the vanilla spring-feature that creates floating lava pockets in the Overworld’s cave systems. It only disables lava springs that do not require a block below them (the ambient, floating variety), leaving intentional lava pools untouched. No new blocks. This is a world-generation suppression tweak.

Big Stone Clusters

Overrides the vanilla scattered-pebble distribution for several stone types by generating them as large, blob-shaped clusters. Each stone type targets a specific biome group:
Stone TypeBiomesDimensions
CalciteMountain biomesOverworld
LimestoneSwamp, Ocean biomesOverworld
JasperBadlands, Sandy biomesOverworld
ShaleSnowy, Cold biomesOverworld
MyaliteEnd Highlands (generates in air)The End
Overworld clusters spawn between Y 20 and Y 80; End Myalite clusters spawn between Y 58 and Y 62. The generator replaces Stone, Andesite, Diorite, Granite, Netherrack, End Stone, and any Quark stone blocks it encounters. The list of replaceable blocks is configurable.
Big Stone Clusters and New Stone Types share configuration. If Big Stone Clusters is enabled for a given stone type, the ore-style vein generation from New Stone Types is automatically disabled for that type to avoid duplication.

New Stone Types

Adds four new decorative stone types to world generation, each with a full set of variants (polished, slab, stairs, wall):
BlockDimensionNotes
LimestoneOverworldStone-grey; two ore-vein passes (upper + lower)
JasperOverworldTerracotta-red; two ore-vein passes
ShaleOverworldIce-blue; two ore-vein passes
MyaliteThe EndColour-shifting purple; End dimension only
All four blocks generate using the standard ore generator with configurable min/max Y levels and vein sizes. Mason villagers can trade Limestone, Jasper, and Shale blocks (journeyman tier, configurable). Myalite has a unique per-position colour-shift effect on both the block and item. New blocks: limestone, polished_limestone, jasper, polished_jasper, shale, polished_shale, myalite, polished_myalite (plus slabs, stairs, walls for each)

New Structures & Formations

Corundum

Corundum generates as large underground cave formations anywhere in the Overworld (excluding ocean biomes). A formation contains a core of coloured Corundum blocks with Corundum Cluster growths on exposed surfaces and Corundum Pane decorations. Each colour is tied to its own block set. Clusters can grow over time (configurable tick rate) and, when enabled, crafted into Rune items for the tools system. Nine colours are registered: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet, White, Black. Each colour produces:
  • <colour>_corundum — the base block (waxable)
  • waxed_<colour>_corundum — waxed variant (immune to crystal growth)
  • <colour>_corundum_cluster — directional cluster growth
  • <colour>_corundum_pane — glass-pane-style connector
Clusters facing away from their base block connect indirectly via pistons (collateral movement). All Corundum blocks are tagged quark:corundum.

Spiral Spires

Large twisted spires of Myalite Crystal and Dusky Myalite erupt from the surface of the End Highlands biome. They generate with a rarity of 1-in-200 chunks and a configurable radius. Myalite Viaduct mechanic: When a teleportation event (e.g., Chorus Fruit) would land a player adjacent to a connected chain of Myalite Crystal blocks, the player is instead teleported along the chain to the far end, up to a configurable distance (default 24 blocks). Particles mark the path; the viaduct advancement fires on first use. New blocks: myalite_crystal, dusky_myalite

Monster Boxes

Disguised blocks that look like ordinary stone, hidden underground between Y −50 and Y 0 (configurable). When a player comes within 2.5 blocks, the box opens and spawns 5–8 mobs (drawn from a configurable loot table). Mobs spawned by a Monster Box drop bonus loot from a secondary loot table when killed by a player. Generation is per-chunk with a configurable chance (default 20 % per chunk). The generator searches vertically up to 15 blocks for a valid placement position. New block: monster_box

Nether Obsidian Spikes

Obsidian spikes erupt from the floor of any Nether biome. The generator attempts 4 placements per chunk at a 10 % chunk chance (configurable). Rare “big spikes” (3 % chance) can optionally contain a spawner at their peak. No new blocks. Spikes are built from vanilla obsidian.

Fairy Rings

Circles of mushrooms (using vanilla mushroom blocks) spawn on the surface of forest and plains biomes in the Overworld. Beneath each ring, one or more ore blocks (default: Emerald Ore, Diamond Ore) are placed in the ground. The ore list is fully configurable. No new blocks. Uses vanilla mushrooms and ore blocks.

New Plants & Vegetation

Blossom Trees

Five colour variants of flowering trees generate in biome-appropriate locations across the Overworld. All share a single Blossom wood set (logs, planks, slabs, stairs, fences, etc.) and produce coloured leaf blocks that drop falling particles.
VariantPrimary BiomeRarity
Blue BlossomSnowy biomes1-in-200
Lavender BlossomSwamp biomes1-in-100
Orange BlossomSavanna biomes1-in-100
Yellow BlossomPlains biomes1-in-200
Red BlossomBadlands biomes1-in-30
Each variant has a corresponding sapling (obtainable, can be potted) and leaf block. Saplings can be used as fuel (100 ticks) and have a 30 % compost chance. Leaves also have a 30 % compost chance. New blocks: blossom_log, blossom_planks (full wood set), <colour>_blossom_leaves, <colour>_blossom_sapling for each of the five colours.

Ancient Wood

Ancient Trees (internally “Ashen Trees”) are tall, multi-foliaged trees with pale white-terracotta bark. Their saplings can be obtained in two ways:
  • Sniffer: added to the sniffer digging loot table (added directly to the main loot pool).
  • Ancient City chests: configurable weight, disabled by default (set ancientCityLootWeight to a non-zero value, 8 recommended).
Ancient Trees grow Ancient Fruit, which can be eaten and grants configurable experience (default 10 XP). Ancient Fruit contributes to the Balanced Diet advancement. The wood set uses white-terracotta map colours. Ancient Saplings burn as fuel (100 ticks) and have a 30 % compost chance. Ancient Fruit has a 65 % compost chance. New blocks/items: ancient_log, ancient_planks (full wood set), ancient_leaves, ancient_sapling, ancient_fruit

Azalea Wood

Replaces the trunk of vanilla Azalea Trees with a proper Quark wood set using the azalea wood type (light-green / brown map colours). The Azalea Tree feature itself is unchanged — the module simply swaps the log block used when an Azalea Tree generates. Incompatible with Caverns & Chasms (anti-overlap set). New blocks: azalea_log, azalea_planks (full wood set, matching Azalea tree generation)

Fallen Logs

Horizontal log sections (fallen logs) generate across forested Overworld biomes. Each biome tag controls which wood type appears:
  • Acacia, Birch, Cherry, Dark Oak, Jungle, Mangrove, Oak, Spruce — one log type per tag.
A configurable percentage spawn as Hollow Logs (requires the Hollow Logs building module to be enabled). Logs can also generate over water (10 % chance by default) and are sparser in biomes tagged quark:has_lower_fallen_tree_density. The spawnable-surface block set is controlled by the quark:fallen_log_can_spawn_on block tag. No new blocks (uses vanilla log blocks; hollow variants come from the building module).

Cherry Grove Water Petals

Generates clusters of Pink Petals (or Cherry Leaf Carpet if the Leaf Carpet module is enabled) floating on water surfaces inside Cherry Grove biomes. Each chunk has a configurable chance of receiving petals (default 50 %), with configurable group size and jagged-edge variation. Incompatible with the pinkpetalcarpet and hanaikada mods (anti-overlap set). No new blocks. Uses vanilla Pink Petals or Quark Leaf Carpet.

Chorus Vegetation

Two new decorative plant blocks grow on the surface of End Highlands and End Midlands biomes in The End:
  • Chorus Weeds — a short, spreading End plant.
  • Chorus Twist — a taller, twisting variant.
Both can be placed in flower pots. Configuration controls spawn rarity, radius, and per-biome chance. Passive teleportation, Endermite spawning, and item duplication on teleportation are configurable interactions (default values: passiveTeleportChance = 0.2, endermiteSpawnChance = 0.01, teleportDuplicationChance = 0.01). New blocks: chorus_weeds, chorus_twist

Glimmering Weald

A new underground cave biome that generates as a sub-biome of deep underground areas (below dripstone caves, controlled by climate parameters). It is lit by bioluminescent fungi and lichen rather than standard light sources. New blocks:
  • glow_shroom — a small glowing mushroom (compostable, 65 %).
  • glow_shroom_block — large mushroom block variant (compostable, 65 %).
  • glow_shroom_stem — large mushroom stem variant (compostable, 65 %).
  • glow_shroom_ring — decorative ring block (compostable, 65 %).
  • glow_lichen_growth — a spreading glow lichen (emits light level 8 when potted; 50 % compost).
The biome contributes to the Adventuring Time advancement. Stonelings have an increased spawn rate inside Glimmering Weald. Glow shrooms can be fed to certain mobs (configurable via the quark:glow_shroom_feedables item tag) as part of the Stoneling taming mechanic. Biome placement uses the Biolith API and is toggled with the module switch. The biome also grants extra Lapis Lazuli ore generation.
