/course/[subject]-[number]. The page is split into three panels: the visualization panel on the left with the chart and controls, the discussion panel in the middle, and the breakdown panel on the right. All three panels reflect the same professor and semester selection.
Selecting a professor and semester
Two dropdowns appear in the top-right corner of the visualization panel.- Semester dropdown — lists every semester for which data exists, most recent first, plus an All Semesters aggregate. Semesters follow the format
Fall 2024,Spring 2023, and so on. - Professor dropdown — lists every instructor who has taught the course in the dataset, plus an All Professors aggregate.
?professor=42&semester=fall-2024), so filtered views can be bookmarked or shared.
The All Professors and All Semesters aggregates sum grade counts across every matching course instance. Use them to see overall trends; use a specific professor or semester to compare individual outcomes.
Grade distribution chart
The bar chart shows six bars, one for each grade code recorded in the UIC dataset: A, B, C, D, F, and W. Each bar displays the raw student count and the percentage of total graded students (A–F) above it.| Grade | Meaning |
|---|---|
| A | Satisfactory — 4.0 points |
| B | Above average — 3.0 points |
| C | Average — 2.0 points |
| D | Below average — 1.0 points |
| F | Failing — 0.0 points |
| W | Withdrawal — not included in GPA or pass rate |
Stats card
A stats card in the top-right of the chart displays four computed values for the currently selected professor and semester combination.| Stat | How it is calculated |
|---|---|
| GPA | Weighted average of A–F grade counts using standard 4.0 scale points (A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0). W grades are excluded. |
| Pass Rate | Percentage of A–D grades out of all A–F grades. W grades are excluded from the denominator. |
| Drop Rate | Percentage of W (withdrawal) grades out of all grades including W. |
| Avg Class Size | Average number of students per section across the selected filter. |
Grade data is sourced from official UIC grade distribution publications, but statistics displayed on YouEyeSea are calculated in the backend and may contain minor errors. Always verify critical information against the original source. The pass rate denominator includes only A–F grades; the drop rate denominator includes W.
Breakdown panel
The Breakdown panel on the right side of the page shows a row-by-row table of every course instance (professor + semester combination) recorded for the course. Each row shows the instructor name, semester, number of A grades, and total enrollment. The table is sorted with the most recent semester first.Course action buttons
Three action buttons appear below the course title in the visualization panel. They open external sites in a new tab.- View in Course Catalog — links to the UIC course catalog entry for the course.
- Search RateMyProfessor — appears only when a specific professor is selected. Links to a Rate My Professors search for that instructor.
- Search Reddit — links to a search of r/uichicago. When a professor is selected, the search uses the professor’s last name; otherwise it uses the course code.

Read the chart
The bar chart shows A–W grade counts. Hover over a bar (desktop) to see the exact count in a tooltip. The percentage shown above each bar is that grade’s share of all A–F grades.
Check the stats card
The stats card shows cohort GPA, pass rate, drop rate, and average class size for your current selection.
