BB Theme provides sensible defaults for all content areas of your site, from headers and navigation menus to footers and sidebars. Understanding these defaults helps you customize your site effectively.

Headers and navigation

Default header layout

The BB Theme’s header area includes three components:
  1. Top bar (optional) - Disabled by default
  2. Main header area - Contains logo/text
  3. Navigation menu - Position varies by layout choice
Header components

Default header settings

  • Layout: Nav Right (menu to the right of logo)
  • Top bar: Disabled
  • Fixed header: Disabled
  • Header background: White
  • Header text color: Medium grey (#808080)
  • Logo type: Text (uses site title)
  • Nav item spacing: Default spacing
  • Search icon: Disabled
  • Mobile toggle: Hamburger icon
  • Responsive breakpoint: Small devices only (768px)
  • Submenu indicator: Disabled

Header layouts available

BB Theme offers multiple header layout options:
  • None - No header displayed initially (can fade in on scroll)
  • Nav Right - Menu items to the right of logo
  • Nav Left - Menu items to the left of logo
  • Nav Centered - Menu below centered logo
  • Nav Bottom - Menu below left-aligned logo
  • Nav Centered + Inline Logo - Logo centered with menu items on both sides
  • Nav Vertical Left - Vertical sidebar navigation on left
  • Nav Vertical Right - Vertical sidebar navigation on right
BB Theme provides menu locations for:
  • Primary menu - Main navigation in header
  • Footer menu - Optional menu in footer
Create and assign menus at Customize > Menus.

Footers

BB Theme supports two footer sections:
  1. Footer widgets area (optional) - Up to 4 widget columns
  2. Main footer - Up to 2 content columns
  • Footer widgets: Disabled by default
  • Main footer: Two columns available
  • Footer background: White
  • Footer text color: Medium grey (#808080)
  • Footer parallax: Disabled
Each footer column can contain:
  • Text (supports HTML and shortcodes)
  • Social icons
  • WordPress menu
  • Combination of text and social icons
Use the [fl_year] shortcode to automatically display the current year in your footer copyright text.

Primary sidebar

BB Theme includes one sidebar location called “Primary.”

Default sidebar settings

  • Position: Right side
  • Display on posts: Yes (by default)
  • Display on pages: No (by default)
  • Width: Proportional to content width
  • Mobile behavior: Appears below content

Controlling sidebar display

You can control sidebar display: Globally in Customize > Content > Blog layout:
  • Enable or disable for posts
  • Set position (left, right, none)
  • Configure width and responsive behavior
Per page/post using the Template field:
  • Pages: Choose “Sidebar” template to show sidebar
  • Posts: Choose “Full width” template to hide sidebar
Add widgets to your sidebar at Appearance > Widgets in the WordPress admin panel.

Blog and post defaults

Blog layout

  • Sidebar: Enabled by default for posts
  • Post meta: Author, date, and comment count shown
  • Featured image: Displayed by default

Archive layout

  • Display: Full post content (not excerpt)
  • Read More text: “Continue Reading…”
  • Featured image: Above title
  • Image size: Medium

Post layout

  • Featured image: Above title
  • Image size: Large
  • Categories: Shown
  • Tags: Shown
  • Previous/Next navigation: Shown
  • Author box: Disabled by default

Widgets

BB Theme provides several widget areas:

Widget locations

  1. Primary sidebar - Right sidebar (posts)
  2. Footer Column 1 - First footer widget column
  3. Footer Column 2 - Second footer widget column
  4. Footer Column 3 - Third footer widget column
  5. Footer Column 4 - Fourth footer widget column
  • Layout: Disabled by default
  • Number of columns: 1-4 columns available
  • Background: Customizable color or image
  • Text color: Customizable
Configure widgets at Appearance > Widgets or Customize > Widgets.

Social icons

Configure social icons at Customize > General > Social Links:
  • Enter URLs for each social platform
  • Choose monochrome or branded colors

Where social icons can appear

Social icons can be displayed in:
  1. Top bar - Column 1 or Column 2
  2. Header - Nav Bottom layout content area
  3. Footer - Column 1 or Column 2

Font Awesome icons

Default loading behavior

BB Theme can load Font Awesome icons in three ways:
  • Auto-detect (default) - Load only when needed
  • Always load - Load on every page
  • Font Awesome 4 compatibility - Convert FA4 icons to FA5
Configure at Customize > General > Layout > Font Awesome icons.

Templates for pages and posts

BB Theme adds template options to the WordPress Template field:

Page templates

  • Default - Standard page layout with header and footer, no sidebar
  • No header/footer - Content only (great for landing pages)
  • Sidebar - Adds primary sidebar to the page

Post templates

  • Default - Standard post with all post elements
  • Full width - Removes sidebar and post meta
  • No header/footer - Content only
Template selection appears in the Page Attributes panel (for pages) or Post Attributes panel (for posts) when editing.

WooCommerce integration

If you have WooCommerce installed, BB Theme provides defaults:

WooCommerce settings

  • Sidebar: Disabled by default
  • Product columns: 4 columns per row
  • Product gallery: Enabled
  • Add to Cart button: Shown on category pages
  • Custom styling: BB Theme styles enabled
Configure at Customize > Content > WooCommerce layout.

Image lightbox

  • Status: Enabled by default
  • Applies to: Images in text areas (WordPress and Beaver Builder)
  • Features: Navigation arrows when multiple images exist

Customizing content defaults

All content defaults can be customized:

Access the Customizer

Go to Appearance > Customize in WordPress admin.

Navigate to relevant tab

Choose Header, Content, or Footer tab based on what you want to customize.

Adjust settings

Make your changes and preview them in real-time.

Publish changes

Click Publish to save your customizations.
