Sync issues

Enabling or disabling a mod only changes its state in the staging directory. You must sync to apply those changes to the game folder.
1

Check mod states

Open the Mods tab and confirm the mods you want are toggled on.
2

Run Sync

Click the Sync button. BD2 Mod Manager will copy (or link) all enabled mods to <game_dir>/BepInEx/plugins/BrownDustX/mods/BD2MM/.
3

Launch the game

Start Brown Dust 2. Mods should now be active.
Enable Auto sync in Settings to have the app sync automatically whenever you toggle a mod, so you never forget this step.
The app cannot locate the mod’s source files. This usually means the mod was moved or deleted outside of BD2 Mod Manager after being added.Re-add the mod by dragging the archive or folder back into the app, then try syncing again.
The app does not have write permission to the game directory, or another process has a lock on the files.
  • Run BD2 Mod Manager as Administrator.
  • Make sure the game is not currently running.
  • Check that your antivirus is not blocking writes to the BepInEx directory.

Mod errors

BD2 Mod Manager detected a .zip, .rar, or .7z archive in the mods/ staging folder that has not been extracted.
As of v4.0.0, the app can install mods directly from archives. Drop the archive onto the app window or use Install mod to have it extracted automatically. If you placed the archive manually in the staging folder, extract it there first.
Mod files must be contained inside a named subfolder within the mods/ directory. Loose files placed directly in mods/ are not valid.Move the mod’s files into a dedicated folder, for example mods/MyMod/, so the structure looks like:
mods/
└── MyMod/
    ├── MyMod.modfile
    └── textures/
The mod directory does not contain a .modfile. This file is required and defines the mod’s metadata.Verify that the mod was downloaded completely and that the .modfile is present inside the mod’s folder. If the file is missing, re-download the mod from the BrownDustX Discord.
The mod’s texture files are absent from the mod directory. The mod is incomplete.Re-download the mod to get all required files. If you installed from an archive, check that the extraction completed without errors.
The atlas file referenced by the mod’s .modfile is missing. The mod cannot load without it.Re-download the mod. If the issue persists, report it in the BrownDustX Discord as the mod itself may be incomplete.
This mod edits the same character or files as at least one other enabled mod. Running conflicting mods simultaneously can cause the game to load only one of them, or neither.Disable one of the conflicting mods, then sync. Use the conflict indicator in the Mods tab to identify which mods are in conflict.
The mod’s contents are malformed or the mod directory is structured incorrectly.
  • Re-download and re-install the mod.
  • Confirm the mod is intended for BD2 Mod Manager and not another tool.
  • If the problem continues, report the mod to its author in the BrownDustX Discord.

Installation and setup issues

BD2 Mod Manager needs to know where Brown Dust 2 is installed.
1

Open Settings

Go to the Settings tab and look for the game directory field.
2

Locate the executable

Browse to the folder that contains BrownDust II.exe. A typical path looks like F:\Neowiz\Browndust2\Browndust2_10000001.
3

Save and continue

Confirm the path. The app will validate the directory before saving.
If you installed through Steam, right-click the game in your Steam library, select Manage → Browse local files to open the installation folder.
BD2 Mod Manager requires BepInEx and the BrownDustX plugin to be installed before mods can work in the game.
1

Open the BrownDustX tab

Click BrownDustX in the top navigation.
2

Install BepInEx

If BepInEx is not detected, click Install BepInEx. The app downloads and installs it directly into your game directory.
3

Install BrownDustX

Once BepInEx is present, install the BrownDustX plugin the same way.
Install BepInEx before BrownDustX. The plugin depends on BepInEx being present in the game directory.
