ModeShortStories (option 10) provides a built-in library of short bilingual reading passages written to be accessible for Spanish-speaking English learners. From the stories sub-menu you can read a random story, pick one by number, filter the library by CEFR level, or browse the full title list — all without leaving the application.

Story options

Picks a story at random from the full library (all levels combined) and displays it immediately. This is the fastest way to get a reading warm-up without choosing a specific text.
Prompts for a story ID between 1 and the total story count. If the ID exists in the library the story is displayed; otherwise EnglishMatrix shows Historia no encontrada and returns to the sub-menu. Use option 4 first to see which IDs are available.
Prompts for a CEFR level — enter A1, A2, or C1. EnglishMatrix lists all stories at that level with their IDs, then lets you pick one by entering its number. If no stories exist for the entered level, a notice is shown and you are returned to the sub-menu.
Prints a full index of every story in the library, showing each story’s ID, level, and title in a compact list — for example:
  [01] (A2) Daniel el doctor
  [02] (A1) Julieta aprende inglés
[04] (C1) Valeria: Speak with Power
Use this option to find a story topic that interests you before selecting it by number with option 2.
Returns to the main EnglishMatrix menu without reading a story.

Story format

Every story is displayed in a bordered frame produced by PrintStory:
╔══════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ Historia #01 — Nivel: A2 ║
║ Daniel el doctor ║
╚══════════════════════════════════════════╝

Hello! My name is Daniel. I am 38 years old, and I am from Colombia.
In my country, I worked as a doctor in a very famous clinic.

CEFR levels

The library covers three levels:
LevelNameDescription
A1BeginnerVery short, simple passages using high-frequency vocabulary and present tense. Most stories in the library are at this level.
A2ElementarySlightly longer narratives that introduce past tense and more varied sentence structures.
C1AdvancedComplex stories with multiple tenses, subordinate clauses, and richer vocabulary — included for stretch reading once A1/A2 feels comfortable.
Read a story and note which tenses and verbs appear most frequently. Then jump to options 1 or 2 to generate sentences in that same tense, or to option 3 to test yourself on translating them. This reading-to-production loop reinforces comprehension and active use of the same grammar at the same time.
