Here are the most common questions from students and teams preparing for Carnero.Dev. Whether you are figuring out eligibility, forming your team, or wondering what to pack for the 36-hour sprint, the answers below cover the essentials. If you have a question not covered here, reach out on the official Discord server — the organizing team is active and responsive.
Active university students enrolled in TICs, computer systems, software development, and related engineering programs at ITR Roque and invited universities are eligible to participate. Basic programming knowledge is recommended — the hacking sprint is intense, and teams with at least foundational coding skills will get the most out of the mentorship rounds and workshops.
Teams must have a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 members. The event strongly encourages multidisciplinary teams that combine complementary skills — frontend developers, backend engineers, UI/UX designers, and business or technical writers all contribute meaningfully to a winning project.
The team size stated here reflects the FAQ component (3–5 members). For the official registration requirement, refer to the rules and eligibility page.
No. Registration and participation in Carnero.Dev is completely free of charge. Accreditation, food during development hours of the 36-hour sprint, and full access to mentorship rounds are all provided at no cost to participants.
Each team member must bring their own laptop, chargers, power cables, and any hardware required for testing their specific project. Teams targeting the IoT track should bring relevant hardware such as ESP32 boards or sensors. Because the hacking sprint runs for 36 uninterrupted hours, personal hygiene items are also strongly recommended for everyone’s comfort.
Yes. You can register as an individual participant. During the first hour of the event — as part of the Registration & Accreditation block — a structured team-integration dynamic will be held on-site so solo participants can meet and join incomplete teams. Come prepared with a brief introduction of your skills and interests.
An expert industry panel scores all final presentations across four criteria, each worth 25 points:
  • Originality & Impact (25%) — How novel is the problem being solved, and how meaningful is the proposed solution?
  • Code Architecture & Deployment Quality (25%) — Is the codebase well-structured, maintainable, and successfully deployed?
  • Interface Design & UX (25%) — Is the product visually coherent, intuitive to use, and centered on the end user?
  • Advanced Technology Integration + Final Pitch (25%) — Does the project leverage relevant technologies meaningfully, and is the 3-minute pitch delivered clearly and confidently?
The four criteria above (25% each) reflect the scoring breakdown in the FAQ component. For the full official judging rubric, see the evaluation criteria page.
