Getting PojavLauncher onto your Android device takes only a few minutes. There are three official distribution channels to choose from — a stable release APK you sideload, bleeding-edge automatic CI builds, or a convenient Google Play install. Pick whichever suits your needs and follow the steps below to get into the game.
PojavLauncher has been discontinued. The project is no longer actively maintained. Its successor is Amethyst Android. These installation steps apply to the final archived release.

Requirements

  • Android 5.0 (API 21) or later (minSdkVersion 21). Android 8.0 or later is strongly recommended for the best compatibility and performance.
  • At least 2 GB of free storage (the game files themselves require additional space on top of the APK).
  • A valid Microsoft / Mojang account to log in and download Minecraft.
  • For sideloading: “Install from unknown sources” must be enabled for your browser or file manager in Android Settings.

Installation Methods

Stable releases are manually tagged by the team and represent the most tested version of the launcher.
1

Open the Releases page

Navigate to the PojavLauncher Releases page on GitHub.
2

Download the APK

Find the latest release and download the .apk file that matches your device architecture (most modern Android phones are arm64-v8a). If you are unsure, download the universal APK.
3

Allow installation from unknown sources

On Android 8+, your browser will prompt you to allow installing unknown apps. Tap Settings, enable the toggle for your browser, then navigate back and tap Install.
4

Install the APK

Open the downloaded file from your notification shade or a file manager and tap Install.

First-Launch Setup

Once PojavLauncher is installed, open it and complete the following one-time setup steps.
1

Grant storage permission

On first launch, PojavLauncher will ask for storage access. Tap Allow so the launcher can create your .minecraft folder and save game files. Without this permission the launcher cannot download or run the game.
On Android 11 and above, you may be directed to Settings → Apps → PojavLauncher → Permissions to grant “All files access” (MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE). This is required for the launcher to work correctly.
2

Sign in to your Microsoft account

Tap the account icon and follow the on-screen Microsoft login flow. PojavLauncher uses the official Microsoft OAuth flow — your credentials are never stored by the launcher itself.
3

Choose a Minecraft version

On the main screen, tap the version selector drop-down. You can pick any release, snapshot, or beta version. If you are unsure, choose the latest full release.
4

Tap Play

Tap the Play button. PojavLauncher will download the selected version’s assets and libraries on first run. This may take a few minutes depending on your connection speed.
If the game crashes on first launch, try switching to a different JRE version in Settings → Java Runtime. Minecraft 1.17 and above require Java 17 or later; older versions work best with Java 8.

iOS / iPadOS

PojavLauncher for iOS and iPadOS is a completely separate project with its own installation process. Visit the PojavLauncher_iOS repository for instructions.
