Creating a call link
1
Open the Calls tab
Tap Calls in the bottom navigation bar.
2
Tap the compose icon
Tap the pencil or compose icon at the top of the Calls tab to open the new call sheet.
3
Choose Create a call link
In the bottom sheet that appears, tap Create a call link. Signal generates a unique link and root key for the room.
4
Configure the link (optional)
Before sharing, you can set a name and toggle admin approval. See Configuring call link settings below.
5
Share or save
Tap Share link via Signal, Copy link, or Share link to send the URL, or tap Done to save the link for later.
The link is not committed to Signal’s servers until you first share or join it. Tapping Done without sharing or joining commits the link so it is saved to your account.
Configuring call link settings
When you create a call link — or when you open an existing one you administer — you can adjust two settings:Call name
By default, a new call link has no name. Tap Add call name (or Edit call name for an existing link) to set a display name. This name appears in the call room and in the Calls tab for anyone who has joined.Admin approval
The Require admin approval toggle controls how participants enter the call.Sharing a call link
From the call link creation sheet or the call link details screen, you have three share options:Share via Signal
Opens Signal’s share sheet so you can send the link as a message to a contact or group.
Copies the URL (
https://signal.link/call/#key=…) to your clipboard. Paste it anywhere.Share link
Opens Android’s system share sheet to send the link through any app on your device.
https://signal.link/call/#key=<root-key>. Anyone who receives this URL and has Signal installed can tap it to join.
Joining a call via link
1
Tap the link
Tap a
signal.link/call URL in any app. Signal opens and shows a preview of the call room including its name (if one has been set).2
Review and join
Tap Join on the call preview screen to enter the room.
3
Wait for approval (if required)
If the admin has enabled Require admin approval, you enter a waiting room. The admin sees a notification and must approve your entry before you can participate.
If you receive a call link from someone outside your contacts, Signal may warn you before opening the link. Review the URL before proceeding.
Managing your call links
All call links you have created appear in the Calls tab alongside your call history. Links show a distinct icon and display the call name (or a placeholder if unnamed).Viewing and editing a call link
Tap a call link row in the Calls tab to open its details screen. From there you can:- Edit the call name
- Toggle admin approval
- Share or copy the link
- Join the call
- Delete the link
Editing the call name
On the call link details screen, tap Edit call name, enter a new name, and confirm. The updated name syncs to Signal’s servers so participants see it immediately.Deleting a call link
1
Open the call link details
Tap the call link row in the Calls tab.
2
Tap Delete call link
Scroll to the bottom of the details screen and tap Delete call link (shown with a trash icon).
3
Confirm deletion
Tap Delete in the confirmation dialog. The link is immediately revoked — anyone who tries to join using the old URL will find it no longer works.
Admin controls during a call
When you join a call you created (or any call where you hold admin credentials), additional controls are available to manage participants.Approving participants
If Require admin approval is enabled, a notification appears when someone is waiting to join. Tap the participant request to approve or deny their entry.Removing participants
During the call, open the participant list and tap a participant’s name to access moderation options. You can remove a participant from the call. Removed participants see the call end on their device; they can attempt to rejoin if they still have the link, but you can deny re-entry through the approval flow.Admin credentials are stored locally in the
admin_key field of the call link record. If you lose access to the device where you created the link, you lose admin controls for that link.Call link call history
When participants join a call via link, the call is recorded in the Calls tab as an ad-hoc call (AD_HOC_CALL type). These entries show the call link name, direction, and timestamp. The call log distinguishes ad-hoc calls from regular 1:1 and group calls.
If you delete a call link, any associated call history entries are also marked for deletion and removed from the log.
