Overview

EduMate automatically saves every assessment you generate to your personal history. This allows you to review, download, and reuse assessments without regenerating them.

Accessing Assessment History

Navigate to History

Click the “History” button in the sidebar (left navigation panel). It’s marked with a clock icon.

View Your Assessments

The History page displays a table of all your saved assessments, showing:
  • Assessment name (chapter/module name)
  • Date created
  • Number of questions
  • Status
  • Available actions

Understanding the History Table

Column Breakdown

ColumnDescription
Assessment NameThe chapter or module name you entered during generation
DateWhen the assessment was created (e.g., “Jan 15, 2026”)
QuestionsTotal number of MCQs in this assessment
StatusCurrent state (typically “completed” with a green indicator)
ActionsQuick access buttons: “View” and “Download”
Assessments are listed in reverse chronological order—your most recent generations appear at the top.

Viewing a Saved Assessment

To review the full content of a past assessment:

Find Your Assessment

Locate the assessment in the history table by name or date.

Click View Button

Click the “View” button (purple, with an eye icon) in the Actions column.
The View button is styled in violet/purple to distinguish it from the Download button.

Assessment Modal Opens

A slide-over panel appears from the right side of the screen, displaying:
  • Assessment name in the header
  • Full interactive assessment viewer
  • Toggle between Question Paper and Answer Key
  • All original formatting and Bloom’s level badges

Explore Content

Within the modal, you can:
  • Switch between Question Paper and Answer Key views
  • Expand explanations (in Answer Key mode)
  • Download directly from the viewer
  • Scroll through all questions

Close Modal

Click the X button in the top-right corner or click outside the panel to close the viewer.
The assessment viewer in History shows the same interactive interface you saw immediately after generation, preserving all functionality.

Downloading from History

You can download assessments directly from the history table:

Locate Assessment

Find the assessment you want to download in the history table.

Click Download Button

Click the “Download” button (blue/indigo, with a download icon) in the Actions column.
A loading spinner appears on the button while the document is being generated: ”⟳ Download”

Automatic Download

The Question Paper is automatically generated as a DOCX file and downloaded to your computer:
  • Filename: EduMate_Question_Paper.docx
  • Format: Professional Microsoft Word document
  • Content: Questions only (no answers)
The Download button in the history table exports only the Question Paper. To download the Answer Key, open the assessment in the viewer and use the in-viewer download options.

Assessment Status Indicators

Status badges show the current state of each assessment:

FailedRed dot + “failed”Generation encountered an error
Only successfully completed assessments appear in your history. Failed generations are not saved.

History Page States

Loading State

When you first open the History page:
  • A loading spinner appears with “Loading your assessment history…”
  • The system fetches your saved assessments from the database
  • Typically loads within 1-2 seconds

Empty State

If you haven’t generated any assessments yet:
  • A centered message displays: “No assessments yet. Generate your first one!”
  • A clock icon appears in light gray
  • This is normal for new accounts

Error State

If assessments fail to load:
  • A red error message appears: “Failed to load history”
  • An alert triangle icon is shown
  • Try refreshing the page or check your internet connection

Best Practices

Descriptive Names

Use clear, specific chapter names when generating assessments to make them easy to find later in history.

Regular Reviews

Periodically review saved assessments to maintain quality and relevance for your courses.

Organize by Date

The chronological list helps you track when assessments were created for course planning.

Quick Access

Use history instead of regenerating assessments to save time and maintain consistency.

Technical Details

What Gets Saved

Each assessment in your history includes:
  • Chapter/module name
  • Creation timestamp
  • Complete question content (JSON format)
  • Bloom’s taxonomy distribution used
  • Number of questions
  • All MCQs with options, correct answers, and explanations

Authentication & Privacy

Your assessment history is private and associated with your account. Only you can view and access your saved assessments.
The system uses your authentication token to:
  • Fetch only your assessments
  • Ensure secure access
  • Prevent unauthorized viewing

Database Storage

Assessments are stored in the backend database:
  • Each assessment is assigned a unique ID
  • Full content is stored as JSON
  • Metadata is indexed for quick retrieval
  • No automatic deletion—assessments remain until manually removed (if deletion is implemented)

Troubleshooting

Possible causes:
  • You’re logged into a different account
  • Assessments were generated before history feature was implemented
  • Database connection issue
Try:
  • Verify you’re logged in with the correct email
  • Generate a new test assessment to confirm saving works
  • Refresh the page
Cause: Network issue or database query timeout.Solution:
  • Close the modal and try again
  • Check your internet connection
  • Refresh the entire page
  • If persistent, the assessment data may be corrupted
Check:
  • Pop-up blockers might be preventing the download
  • Browser download settings
  • Available disk space
Alternative: Use the View modal and download from within the assessment viewer.
Rare bug: Try:
  • Refreshing the page
  • Closing and reopening the History page
  • Clearing browser cache

Limitations & Future Features

Current Limitations

  • No search or filter functionality yet
  • Cannot edit or rename assessments after generation
  • No manual deletion option (assessments are permanent)
  • Cannot share assessments with other users

Planned Features

The following features may be added in future updates:
  • Search and filter by name or date
  • Sort by name, date, or question count
  • Delete unwanted assessments
  • Rename assessments
  • Export multiple assessments at once
  • Share assessments with colleagues
