Notes

Notes are the most versatile card type in ThinkEx. They use the BlockNote editor, which provides a rich-text editing experience similar to Notion.

Rich-Text Editing

The BlockNote editor supports:
  • Text formatting: Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, code
  • Headings: Multiple heading levels for document structure
  • Lists: Bulleted and numbered lists with nesting
  • Code blocks: Syntax-highlighted code with language selection
  • Math: Inline and block-level LaTeX equations
  • Images: Embedded images with captions
  • Tables: Structured data in table format
  • Quotes: Blockquotes for highlighting text

Creating Notes

1

Add a new card

Click the + button in your workspace or use the AI chat to create a note
2

Start writing

Use the BlockNote editor to format your content with rich-text features
3

Organize

Drag and resize the note card on your canvas, or move it into a folder

Note Sources

Notes can be created from various sources:
  • Manual creation: Start from scratch
  • AI generation: Ask the AI to create notes from prompts
  • Web content: Process URLs to extract and summarize content
  • Deep Research: Generate comprehensive notes from research queries
Notes created from web sources or deep research automatically include source attribution with links to the original content.

Flashcards

Flashcards are perfect for studying and memorization. Each flashcard deck contains multiple cards with a front (question/term) and back (answer/definition).

Features

  • Multiple cards per deck: Create comprehensive study sets
  • Rich-text support: Both front and back support BlockNote formatting
  • Study mode: Flip through cards to test your knowledge
  • Progress tracking: See which cards you’ve reviewed

Creating Flashcard Decks

You can create flashcards in multiple ways:
Ask the AI to create flashcards:
Create flashcards about the water cycle
The AI will generate a deck with multiple cards automatically.

Updating Flashcard Decks

Add more cards to existing decks by asking the AI:
Add 5 more flashcards to the "Spanish Vocabulary" deck about cooking terms
Flashcard decks work great alongside notes and PDFs. Study from the same workspace where you keep your reference materials!

Quizzes

Quizzes provide interactive testing with multiple choice and true/false questions.

Quiz Features

  • Multiple question types: Multiple choice (4 options) and true/false
  • Hints: Optional hints for each question
  • Explanations: Detailed explanations shown after answering
  • Progress tracking: See your score and review incorrect answers
  • Source context: Questions can reference source material

Creating Quizzes

Ask the AI to generate quizzes from your content:
Create a quiz about photosynthesis from my biology notes
The AI will analyze your notes and generate relevant questions with explanations.

Folders

Folders help you organize related cards into collections. They appear as special cards on your canvas.

Using Folders

1

Create a folder

Click + and select “Folder” or ask the AI to create one
2

Add cards to the folder

Drag cards onto the folder or use the card menu to move them
3

Customize

Change the folder name and color to match your organization system
ThinkEx uses a flat folder structure - cards can belong to one folder, but folders cannot be nested inside other folders.

Card Properties

All cards share common properties:
  • Name: The card’s title (editable)
  • Subtitle: Secondary text shown under the title
  • Color: Background color for visual organization
  • Layout: Position and size on the canvas
  • Folder: Optional folder assignment

Responsive Layouts

Cards automatically adapt to different screen sizes:
  • Desktop (lg): 4-column grid layout
  • Mobile (xxs): Single-column layout

Working with Cards

  • Move: Drag to reposition on the canvas
  • Rename: Click the title to edit
  • Delete: Remove cards you no longer need
  • Duplicate: Create copies of existing cards
  • Change color: Customize visual appearance

AI Integration

The AI can work with any card type:
Summarize the "Project Notes" card
Create a flashcard deck from the "Chemistry" PDF
Move all biology-related cards to the Biology folder
Use descriptive card names to make it easier for the AI to find and reference specific cards.

Best Practices

  • Use folders for major topics or projects
  • Keep related cards close together on the canvas
  • Use consistent color coding for card categories
  • Give cards clear, descriptive names
  • Break complex topics into multiple smaller notes
  • Use headings to structure your notes
  • Link related concepts by mentioning card names
  • Add source attribution for research notes
  • Create notes from lectures or reading
  • Generate flashcards from your notes
  • Use quizzes to test understanding
  • Keep PDFs and videos in the same workspace for reference
