Every task you complete in PokeDo feeds a layered progression system. You earn trainer XP that drives your trainer level, which in turn improves your catch rate on every encounter. Completing tasks on consecutive days builds a daily streak that unlocks item rewards at milestones, boosts the odds of finding rarer Pokemon, and increases your shiny encounter rate. On top of streaks, you accumulate achievement badges and a growing inventory of Pokeballs and evolution items that make future encounters easier. Together these systems reward consistent daily use — the longer your streak, the more powerful your trainer becomes.

Trainer levels and XP

Your trainer level is calculated directly from your total accumulated XP. The formula requires progressively more XP per level:
Level 1 → 2: 100 XP
Level 2 → 3: 200 XP
Level 3 → 4: 300 XP
Level N → N+1: N × 100 XP
In code this is:
level = 1
remaining_xp = total_xp
while remaining_xp >= level * 100:
    remaining_xp -= level * 100
    level += 1
Your current level and progress toward the next level are shown on the dashboard (pokedo or pokedo daily).

Reaching a new trainer level is announced immediately when you complete a task that pushes you over the threshold.

Trainer classes

Your trainer class is a cosmetic specialization that reflects your play style. Set it with:
pokedo stats set-class
Available classes include Ace Trainer, Hiker, Scientist, Black Belt, Psychic, Swimmer, Breeder, and Coordinator. The class is displayed on your profile and in the TUI dashboard but does not change gameplay mechanics.

Daily streaks

Your daily streak increments each time you complete at least one task on a calendar day. If you complete tasks on consecutive days, the streak grows. Missing a day resets the current count back to 1, but your all-time best streak is always preserved.
# Check your current and best streak
pokedo streaks
Streaks affect three things simultaneously:
  1. Encounter rate — each streak day adds +1% to the base encounter rate (70%), capped at +10%.
  2. Rarity weights — at streak milestones (7, 14, 30, 50 days) the probability of rarer Pokemon increases.
  3. Shiny rate — each streak day adds +0.5% to the base shiny chance (1%), capped at 10%.

Streak-based rarity bonuses

Streak milestoneRarity adjustment
7 days+5% Rare
14 days+3% Epic, +2% Rare
30 days+2% Legendary, +3% Epic
50 days+1% Mythical, +2% Legendary

Streak milestone rewards

When your streak hits specific day counts, items are automatically added to your inventory.
Streak daysReward
33× Great Balls
71× Evolution Stone
145× Ultra Balls
213× Rare Candies
301× Master Ball
501× Legendary Ticket
1001× Mythical Ticket
Reaching day 30 awards a Master Ball — a guaranteed catch on any Pokemon, including Legendaries. Save it for a Mythical or Legendary encounter rather than using it on a common Pokemon.

Shiny rate from streaks

The base shiny encounter rate is 1% (1 in 100). Each day of your current streak adds 0.5%, up to a hard cap of 10%.
shiny_rate = min(0.01 + streak_days × 0.005, 0.10)
Streak daysShiny rate
01.0%
43.0%
106.0%
1810.0% (cap)
Once you hit 18 consecutive days, every task completion has a 1-in-10 chance of producing a shiny Pokemon for as long as the streak holds.

Badges

Badges are achievement markers earned automatically when you hit a requirement. View your earned and unearned badges:

Early BirdComplete 10 tasks before 9 AM
Night OwlComplete 10 tasks after 9 PM

Badges are stored permanently in your trainer profile and are visible in your stats.

Inventory

Your inventory accumulates Pokeballs and evolution items from streak milestones at days 3, 7, 14, 21, 30, 50, and 100.

Ball modifiers on catch rate:
BallCatch rate bonus

Great Ball+10%
Ultra Ball+20%
Master BallGuaranteed (100%)
PokeDo automatically uses the best ball available in your inventory for each encounter — Master Ball first, then Ultra, then Great.

Encounter rate mechanics

Every time you complete a task, the game rolls against an encounter chance. If the roll succeeds, a wild Pokemon appears. Encounter rate formula:
encounter_rate = 0.70 + difficulty_bonus + streak_bonus
encounter_rate = min(encounter_rate, 0.95)
ComponentValue
Base rate70%
Easy difficulty bonus+0%
Medium difficulty bonus+5%
Hard difficulty bonus+10%
Epic difficulty bonus+15%
Streak bonus (per day)+1%, max +10%
Hard cap95%
At a 14-day streak completing an epic task, your encounter rate is 0.70 + 0.15 + 0.10 = 0.95 — the maximum.

Catch rate mechanics

Once an encounter is triggered, a separate roll determines whether you catch the Pokemon. Base rates by rarity:
RarityBase catch rate
Common90%
Uncommon75%
Rare50%
Epic30%
Legendary15%
Mythical5%
Modifiers stacked on top:
ModifierEffect
Trainer level+2% per level, max +20%
Great Ball+10%
Ultra Ball+20%
Master BallGuaranteed
Good sleep (7–9 hours)+10%
Poor sleep (< 5 hours)−20%
Final catch rate is capped at 95% (excluding Master Ball). Example: A level 5 trainer attempting to catch a Legendary with an Ultra Ball after 8 hours of sleep:
0.15 (base) + 0.10 (trainer, 5 × 0.02) + 0.20 (ultra) + 0.10 (sleep) = 0.55
A 55% chance to catch a Legendary — significantly better than the base 15%, but still not guaranteed.
1

Build your streak first

A 3-day streak earns Great Balls, and a 14-day streak earns Ultra Balls. Do not spend special balls on common encounters.
2

Log sleep every morning

The +10% catch rate from good sleep applies to all tasks completed that day. It is the single easiest modifier to activate consistently.
3

Use hard and epic tasks for rare encounters

Hard tasks give 3× better legendary odds than easy tasks. Set daily or weekly recurring hard tasks around your most consistent habits.
4

Save the Master Ball for a Mythical

The Master Ball from day 30 is a guaranteed catch. Mythical Pokemon have only a 5% base catch rate, even with all other bonuses maxed. It is the right target.
5

Track progress on the dashboard

Run pokedo to see your trainer level, current XP progress, streak count, and recent activity all in one view.
