IronOS devices are controlled by two buttons that can be pressed in different ways to access various functions.

Button Layout

All supported devices have two buttons:
  • +/A button: Located near the front (closer to the tip) on irons, or on the left side on hot plates
  • -/B button: Located near the back (far from the tip) on irons, or on the right side on hot plates

Press Types

Soldering Mode

In soldering mode, the iron heats to your set temperature and maintains it.

Basic Controls

Boost Mode

Boost mode temporarily increases the temperature to a preset value (configured in settings). This is useful when soldering large joints that need extra heat.
  • Hold the +/A button for >2 seconds to activate
  • Temperature increases to the boost setting
  • Release button to return to normal temperature
  • The boost temperature is set in Soldering settings

Standby Mode

When you first power on the device, you’ll see the standby screen.

If you unplug the device before exiting the settings menu properly, your settings will not be saved.

Profile Mode (MHP30 Only)

The MHP30 hot plate supports profile mode for complex heating sequences.

In profile mode, you cannot manually adjust temperature or enter boost mode.

Button Locking

IronOS supports button locking to prevent accidental temperature changes while soldering.
  • Enable in Soldering settingsAllow locking buttons
  • While soldering, hold both buttons to toggle lock
  • Options: B (boost mode only) or F (full locking)

Swapping Button Functions

You can customize button behavior in the settings menu:
  • Swap +/- keys: Reverses which button increases/decreases temperature
  • Swap A/B keys: Reverses button roles in settings menu navigation
