Izzy provides a comprehensive set of features designed for quick access and efficient music control on macOS.

Global hotkey

Quick access to Izzy from anywhere on your Mac with a customizable keyboard shortcut.

Default shortcut

Press Option + Space anywhere on your Mac to show or hide Izzy.

Customization

You can customize the hotkey modifier in Settings:
Option + Space (Default)The least likely to conflict with other apps.

How to change

  1. Open Settings (⚙️ icon)
  2. Scroll to Global Hotkey
  3. Select your preferred modifier (Option, Command, or Control)
  4. The hotkey updates immediately
The space bar is always used as the trigger key. Only the modifier key (Option/Command/Control) can be customized.

Floating window

Keep Izzy visible above all other windows for constant music control.

Customization

  1. Open Settings
  2. Find Menu Bar Player toggle
  3. Turn on or off as needed
  4. Restart Izzy if the player doesn’t appear

Playlists

Create and manage custom playlists with songs from any music service.

Creating playlists

  1. Navigate to Library > Playlists
  2. Click “Create Playlist”
  3. Give your playlist a name
  4. Start adding songs

Adding songs

Add songs to playlists from multiple locations:
  • Search results - Click the + button on any track
  • Now playing - Add the current track
  • Favorites - Add favorite tracks to playlists
  • Queue - Save queued tracks to a playlist

Playlist features

  • Cross-service support - Mix songs from YouTube Music, Tidal, and JioSaavn
  • Drag and drop - Reorder songs within playlists
  • Cover art - Automatic playlist cover from the first track
  • Persistent storage - Playlists saved locally on your Mac
Each song in a playlist remembers which music service it came from, so you can mix tracks from different services seamlessly.

Favorites

Save your favorite tracks for easy access across all sessions.

Adding favorites

Click the heart icon (♥) on any song to add it to your favorites:
  • Search results
  • Queue view
  • Now playing controls
  • Playlist tracks
  • Recently played

Favorites library

  • Access from Library > Favorites
  • Sorted by date added (newest first)
  • Quick play and queue options
  • Add to playlists
  • Download functionality

Persistence

Favorites are stored locally on your Mac at:
~/Library/Containers/com.superman.Izzy/Data/Library/Application Support/
Favorites include quality badges for Tidal tracks, so you can see at a glance which songs are Hi-Res or Lossless.

Recently played

Track your music listening history automatically.

Features

Accessing history

  1. Navigate to Library > Recently Played
  2. Browse your listening history
  3. Click any track to play again
  4. Use the heart icon to add to favorites

Media key integration

Control playback using your Mac’s built-in media keys.

Supported keys

  • Play/Pause - F8 or dedicated media key
  • Next track - F9 or dedicated media key
  • Previous track - F7 or dedicated media key

Native macOS integration

Izzy integrates with macOS Now Playing, which means:
  • Media keys work system-wide
  • Lock screen controls available
  • Control Center integration
  • Touch Bar support (on supported Macs)
Media key support works automatically - no configuration needed. Izzy respects macOS’s media key priority system.

Persistent state

Resume playback exactly where you left off.

What’s saved

  • Current track - The song you were listening to
  • Playback position - Exact timestamp in the track
  • Queue - Your full playback queue
  • Queue position - Which song in the queue is current
  • Shuffle state - Whether shuffle is enabled
  • Repeat mode - None, single, or all
  • Volume level - Your preferred volume setting

Auto-resume

When you relaunch Izzy:
  1. The last track loads automatically
  2. Playback position restores to the exact second
  3. Queue and settings restore
  4. Playback can optionally resume (if it was playing when you quit)
Persistent state works across app quits, restarts, and even system reboots. Your music session is always preserved.

Background playback

Music continues playing even when Izzy is in the background.
