Launch the app

There are three ways to open Izzy Music Player:

Applications folder

Open Finder, go to Applications, and double-click Izzy

Spotlight search

Press Cmd + Space, type “Izzy”, and press Enter

Global hotkey

Press Option + Space from anywhere (after first launch)
The global hotkey Option + Space is the fastest way to access Izzy. It works from any application and toggles the window open or closed.

Choose your music service

Izzy supports three streaming platforms. Select your preferred service:

Open settings

Click the Settings icon (⚙️) in the bottom corner of the Izzy window.

Select a service

At the top of the settings panel, choose from:
  • YouTube Music - Millions of songs from YouTube’s catalog
  • Tidal - Hi-Res lossless audio (up to 24-bit/192kHz FLAC)
  • JioSaavn - India’s largest music streaming platform

Start streaming

The service switches immediately. Close settings and start searching for music.
You can switch between services at any time. Your queue and favorites are preserved per service.

Search for music

Finding music in Izzy is fast and intuitive:

Focus the search bar

Click the search bar at the top of the window or press Cmd + F to focus it.

Type your query

Enter a song name, artist, album, or playlist. Search results appear in real-time as you type.Examples:
  • “Bohemian Rhapsody”
  • “Taylor Swift”
  • “Dark Side of the Moon”

Browse results

Results are organized by category: Songs, Artists, Albums, and Playlists. Scroll through to find what you want.

Play or queue

Click a song to play it immediately, or click the + button to add it to your queue.
For natural language queries, try AI search:
  1. Click the AI Search button (✨) in the search bar
  2. Describe the music you want in plain English:
    • “upbeat workout music”
    • “relaxing jazz for studying”
    • ”90s hip hop classics”
  3. Gemini AI will find songs matching your description
AI search requires a Gemini API key. Get one free from Google AI Studio and add it in Settings.

Play your first song

Once you’ve found a song, playing it is simple:

Select a song

Click on any song from your search results, a playlist, or the “For You” recommendations.

Playback begins

The song starts playing immediately. Album artwork appears in the player, and the track is added to your queue.

Use playback controls

Control playback with the centered control buttons:
  • Play/Pause - Toggle playback
  • Previous - Go to the previous track
  • Next - Skip to the next track
  • Seek bar - Click or drag to jump to any position in the track

Media keys on your keyboard (play, pause, next, previous) work natively with Izzy.

Manage your queue

The queue shows what’s playing next and gives you full control:

Open the queue

Click the Queue tab in the sidebar to view all queued tracks.

Add songs to queue

Click the + button on any song to add it to the end of your queue.

Reorder tracks

Drag and drop songs to rearrange the queue order.

Remove tracks

Click the × button on any song to remove it from the queue.

Use the menu bar player

Izzy integrates beautifully with the macOS menu bar:
  1. Look for the Izzy icon in your menu bar (top-right corner of your screen)
  2. Click it to see the current track with album artwork
  3. Control playback directly from the menu bar without opening the main window
  4. Toggle menu bar player on/off in Settings if desired
The menu bar player shows the currently playing song and provides quick playback controls. It’s perfect for checking what’s playing without interrupting your workflow.

Access AI recommendations

Get personalized music suggestions based on your listening history:

Add Gemini API key

Go to Settings and add your Gemini API key. Get one free from Google AI Studio.

Navigate to Home tab

Click the Home tab in the sidebar to see the “For You” section with the AI badge (✨).

Explore recommendations

The AI analyzes your recently played songs and suggests similar tracks based on genre, mood, and style.

Refresh for new suggestions

Click the refresh button to get completely new recommendations. Each refresh provides fresh songs you haven’t heard before.
Play a few songs first to build your listening history. The more you listen, the better the AI recommendations become.

Save your favorites

Mark songs you love for quick access later:
  1. Click the heart icon (♥) on any song to add it to your favorites
  2. Navigate to Library > Favorites to see all your saved tracks
  3. Click the heart again to remove a song from favorites
Favorites are saved per music service, so your YouTube Music favorites are separate from your Tidal favorites.

Create a playlist

Organize your music into custom playlists:

Navigate to playlists

Go to Library > Playlists in the sidebar.

Create a new playlist

Click the “Create Playlist” button.

Name your playlist

Enter a name for your playlist and confirm.

Add songs

Click the + button on any track throughout the app to add it to your playlists.

Download songs (Tidal only)

If you’re using Tidal, you can download songs in Hi-Res quality:
  1. Find a song you want to download (search results, favorites, queue, etc.)
  2. Click the download button on the track
  3. Songs are downloaded with embedded album art and metadata
  4. Find downloaded files in ~/Downloads/Izzy Music/
  5. Receive a macOS notification when the download completes
Downloads prioritize the highest quality available: Hi-Res Lossless > Hi-Res > Lossless > High quality.

Master the global hotkey

The Option + Space hotkey is your fastest friend:
  • From any app: Press Option + Space to instantly open Izzy
  • Izzy is open: Press Option + Space to hide it
  • Customize it: Change the hotkey in Settings > Keyboard
This floating window experience means Izzy is always just a keystroke away, perfect for controlling music while you work.
