Quick start guide

This guide will help you get started with Orbis Galactic, from obtaining your first kyber crystal to wielding a fully functional lightsaber.

Your first steps

1

Start a new game or load your world

Launch Hytale with Orbis Galactic installed and either:
  • Create a new world to explore the full mod experience
  • Load an existing world to add Star Wars content
For the best experience, create a new world to ensure proper planet generation
2

Gather initial resources

Before traveling to find kyber crystals, you’ll need:
  • Basic mining tools (pickaxe)
  • Food and survival supplies
  • Torches for cave exploration
  • A crafted Ship Call Beacon (for space travel)
3

Travel to Ilum

Kyber crystals can only be mined on the ice planet Ilum.To get there:
  1. Craft a Ship Call Beacon
  2. Place the beacon with at least 17x5x5 blocks of free space in front
  3. Activate the beacon to call your spaceship
  4. Board the ship and navigate to Ilum
Make sure you have the required free space or your ship won’t land!
4

Mine kyber crystals on Ilum

Once on Ilum, look for kyber crystal ore nodes:
  • Kyber Crystal Ore - Stone (most common)
  • Kyber Crystal Ore - Basalt
  • Kyber Crystal Ore - Slate
  • Kyber Crystal Ore - Shale
  • Kyber Crystal Ore - Volcanic
Mine these ores to obtain Clear Kyber Crystals. Each crystal type you find will determine your lightsaber’s blade color and Force alignment.
5

Obtain a lightsaber hilt

You’ll need a lightsaber hilt to complete your weapon. Choose from:
  • Lightsaber Hilt (Anakin) - Elegant and functional, shaped by great promise
  • Lightsaber Hilt (Luke) - Refined with quiet resolve, built to restore hope
  • Lightsaber Hilt (Maul) - Brutal double-coupled design for aggressive combat
In creative mode, you can spawn these directly. In survival, check the Laser Weapon Bench for crafting recipes
6

Craft your lightsaber

Combine your kyber crystal with the lightsaber hilt at a Laser Weapon Bench:
  1. Place a Laser Weapon Bench (craftable workstation)
  2. Add your chosen hilt
  3. Add your kyber crystal (the color determines your blade)
  4. Craft your lightsaber

Using your lightsaber

Once you have your lightsaber, here’s how to use it:

Extending and retracting the blade

Use Secondary Ability (E key) to extend and retract the lightsaber blade
  1. Equip your lightsaber in your hotbar
  2. Press E to ignite the blade
  3. Press E again to retract it

Combat mechanics

  • Attack - Use primary attack to swing your lightsaber
  • Block - Some lightsaber variants support blocking
  • Dual wielding - Maul separated double lightsabers can be wielded in both hands

Lightsaber variants

Depending on your hilt choice, you’ll have different combat styles:

Common beginner mistakes

Forgetting to extend the blade

Many new players forget that lightsabers start retracted. Always press E to ignite your blade before combat!

Insufficient ship landing space

The Ship Call Beacon requires exactly 17x5x5 blocks of free space. Mark out this area before placing your beacon.

Mining kyber crystals on wrong planets

Kyber crystals only spawn on Ilum. Don’t waste time searching on Tatooine or other planets.

Not managing scrap metal

Scrap metal is valuable on Tatooine. Collect it from:
  • Ship wreckage (wings, thrusters, cockpits)
  • Scrap heaps
  • Trading with NPCs
Save it for important Jawa trades like the Speeder Bike.

Next steps

Now that you’ve mastered the basics:
  1. Experiment with all lightsaber styles - Try each hilt and crystal combination
  2. Explore both planets thoroughly - Discover all locations and prefabs
  3. Build a collection - Gather all kyber crystal colors
  4. Set up a base - Create a home on your preferred planet
  5. Master combat - Practice with different weapons and techniques
