Every playthrough of The Beach Mystery begins in the same place — a sunlit beach, a buried chest, and a moment of curiosity — but the story quickly diverges based on three key decisions: whether to open the chest, whether to follow the map (if you found one), and whether to enter the cave. Those three branch points produce seven distinct named storylines, each with its own cast of details drawn from your personalization answers and its own emotional resolution. No two storylines are identical, but every one of them is complete.Documentation Index

The Jewel’s Role in the Cave
When you carry the jewel into the cave (Storylines 2 and 3), the experience is richer in detail but structurally identical to the no-jewel versions (Storylines 5 and 6). In both cases you reach the same fork and make the same left-or-right choice. The difference is what the jewel reveals along the way:- Left passage with jewel: The stone glows brighter as you approach the hidden chamber’s door, which bears the same carved symbol as the jewel itself. Holding the jewel near the carving causes the door to open — the jewel is literally the key.
- Right passage with jewel: The same symbol appears above the guardian’s bed, glowing faintly. Placing the jewel on the ground is interpreted as a peaceful greeting, and the guardian leads you to a sea-facing overlook where the island from the map is visible.
- Without the jewel: A line of pale shells guides you through the darkness instead, and the connection between the cave and the chest is revealed as something you notice and reflect on — a mystery you now know how to complete.
The
hasJewel and hasMap state flags are set when you open the chest and are carried through every subsequent node. Story text and scene details adapt accordingly throughout the cave sections.
