Bihar Police Notebook requires no installation, no account, and no login. Everything runs in your browser. Follow the steps below to write and print your first Hindi letter or FIR case diary in under five minutes.
1

Open the app in your browser

Navigate to https://bpdiary.arverma.dev/ in Chrome or any modern browser (Firefox, Edge, and Safari also work). The app loads as a static web page — there is no server-side processing. Once the page has loaded you can work offline; an internet connection is only needed to load the page for the first time.
Chrome gives the best experience for printing and PDF export because it supports the widest range of browser print APIs. Use Chrome if possible.
2

Choose a template: Letter or Diary

In the header bar at the top of the page you will see a template segment control with two options:
  • Letter — for official Hindi correspondence. The editor renders a single-column A4 page with a text area for the body of your letter.
  • Diary — for FIR case diaries. The editor provides structured fields matching the standard diary format, including date, case number, and narrative sections.
Click the Letter or Diary button to switch templates. Switching templates saves your current document automatically before opening a blank one of the new type.
You can maintain separate histories for letters and diaries. The History sidebar updates to show only the document type that is currently active.
3

Type your document

Click anywhere in the text area (or a diary field) and start typing. There are three ways to enter Hindi text:
On a desktop or tablet, enable the Hindi Typing toggle (labelled A:अ) in the header. When the toggle is on, type in everyday Romanized Hindi — for example, type pranam and the app converts it to प्रणाम automatically. As you type, an inline suggestions box appears near your cursor with alternative Devanagari transliterations. Press Space to accept the first suggestion, or click any suggestion in the list to insert it.To turn off transliteration and type Devanagari directly (for example, using a system Devanagari keyboard), switch the toggle off.
Use the Punctuation Panel (accessible from the toolbar) to insert the 9 essential Hindi punctuation symbols — danda (।), double danda (॥), and others — with a single click.
4

Your document saves automatically

You do not need to press a save button. Bihar Police Notebook saves your work to your browser’s IndexedDB automatically as you type, with a 600 ms debounce — meaning the save fires 600 milliseconds after you stop typing. While a save is in progress, the PDF button in the header shows a spinner icon. When the save is complete, the icon returns to the PDF symbol. To give your document a name, click the filename field in the header (it defaults to today’s date, e.g. 15 Jun 2025) and type a custom name. The name is saved along with the document.
Documents are stored only in this browser on this device. If you want to access them on another device or protect them from accidental browser-data clearing, connect Google Drive backup from the History panel.
5

Print or save as PDF

When your document is ready, click the PDF button (📄) in the header, or use the keyboard shortcut:
ActionWindows / LinuxmacOS
Print / Save as PDFCtrl+PCmd+P
New documentCtrl+NCmd+N
Open / close HistoryCtrl+H or Ctrl+BCmd+H or Cmd+B
Toggle voice dictationCtrl+Shift+DCtrl+Shift+D
The app opens a print-ready window with your document laid out exactly as it will appear on A4 paper. In the browser’s print dialog, choose Save as PDF to create a PDF file, or select a physical printer to print directly.
The print window waits for the Noto Sans Devanagari font to finish loading before triggering the print dialog, so Hindi characters always render correctly in the PDF.
