Presets give you a curated starting point without needing to manually evaluate every individual script. Instead of reviewing dozens of checkboxes one by one, you select a preset that matches your risk tolerance and goals, and Winscript checks the appropriate scripts for you automatically. Each preset builds on the last: Basic is a conservative, widely safe collection of tweaks; Strict adds deeper privacy controls and disables non-essential features; Extreme goes furthest, removing system components and tightening access controls well beyond what most users need.
Selecting a preset overrides your current checkbox selections. If you have customised your configuration, export it first using the Export button in the sidebar before applying a preset.

Basic Preset

Recommended for most users. The Basic preset applies a first pass of safe, broadly beneficial tweaks — removing telemetry, disabling consumer bloat, and applying lightweight performance improvements — without touching features that are commonly used. Scripts enabled by the Basic preset:

Strict Preset

For users who want deeper privacy and performance hardening. Some features that casual users may rely on — such as cloud sync, Copilot, and Office telemetry — are disabled. Scripts added by Strict (beyond Basic):

Extreme Preset

Maximum control — use with caution. The Extreme preset includes everything from Basic and Strict and further removes system components such as Microsoft Store, Xbox apps, and OneDrive. It also disables additional access controls and applies performance tweaks that trade security or convenience for speed. Scripts added by Extreme (beyond Strict):

The Extreme preset removes Microsoft Store, Xbox apps, and OneDrive, and disables Core Isolation (a security feature). These changes can break app installations and reduce system security. Only apply this preset if you understand the consequences and know how to restore individual components.

Start with the Basic preset, reboot, and use your system normally for a few days. If everything works as expected, you can apply the Strict preset incrementally. Move to Extreme only if you have specific requirements and are comfortable restoring individual components if something breaks.
