Windows syncs a wide range of user data to Microsoft’s cloud by default — including credentials, desktop themes, personalization choices, Start layout, browser settings, and app preferences. The options below use registry policy keys to lock these behaviors down without requiring Group Policy Editor.
Extend Windows Update Pause Limit
By default Windows limits how long you can pause updates. This tweak extends that maximum pause duration to 7300 days (approximately 20 years), allowing you to defer updates on your own schedule via Windows Settings → Windows Update.
This does not disable updates by itself. You must also manually pause updates inside Windows Settings for the extended limit to take effect.

Disable Cloud Sync
Disables Windows Settings Sync across all categories. The DisableSettingSync value set to 2 enforces the policy machine-wide, while DisableSettingSyncUserOverride = 1 prevents individual users from re-enabling it. The following sync categories are each disabled individually:
- Credentials — saved passwords and sign-in information
- Desktop Theme — wallpaper, colors, sounds
- Personalization — lock screen, accent colors
- Start Layout — pinned apps and tile arrangement
- Web Browser — Edge favorites, settings, and extensions
- App Settings — per-app preferences
- Windows Settings — general OS settings and language preferences

Disable Activity History
Windows Activity History records which apps you use, files you open, and websites you visit, storing and optionally uploading this timeline data to Microsoft. Setting EnableActivityFeed to 0 stops both local recording and cloud upload.

Disable Notifications Tray
Disables the Action Center / Notifications panel in the taskbar. This removes the notification bell icon and prevents the notification center from opening.

Disable Automatic Map Downloads
Windows Maps can silently download and update offline map data in the background. These two keys disable both the automatic download trigger and background network traffic from the Maps settings page.
