Configure how Gramophone looks, including color theme, dark mode behavior, and which library tabs appear in the home screen. Where to find: three-dot menu → Settings → Appearance

Application

App theme

Preference key: theme_mode · Default: Follow system Controls the light/dark mode behavior of the app. Changing this takes effect immediately without restarting.
ValueBehavior
Follow systemMatches the device’s system-wide dark/light mode setting
DarkForces dark mode regardless of system setting
LightForces light mode regardless of system setting
Gramophone’s dark theme uses Material 3 surface colors derived from the system Monet palette on Android 12+. On older Android versions, a neutral dark palette is used.

Pure dark theme

Preference key: pureDark · Default: Off Replaces all dark surfaces with pure black (#000000).
Pure black on OLED displays may produce “black crush” — dark details near black can become indistinguishable. Use this only if you specifically want maximum power savings on OLED screens.

Home screen

Configure tab order

Preference key: tabs · Default: all tabs visible, in default order Opens a dialog that lets you reorder the library tabs shown in the home screen and hide tabs you don’t use. Tabs dragged below the divider in the dialog are hidden from the home screen.
The app always opens to the first tab in the list. Reorder tabs to control which view appears on launch.
If you primarily browse by album, move the Albums tab to the top of the list so it appears first when you open Gramophone.
