Filters
Song minimum length
Preference key:mediastore_filter · Default: 60 seconds · Range: 0 – 120 seconds
Songs shorter than this value (in seconds) are hidden from your library. The slider updates the threshold from 0 to 120 seconds.
This is why short tracks such as interludes, sound effects, or ringtones may not appear in Gramophone by default. Set the value to 0 to show all songs regardless of length.
Why can't I see songs shorter than 60 seconds?
Why can't I see songs shorter than 60 seconds?
Gramophone hides songs shorter than 60 seconds by default. You can change this in three-dot menu → Settings → Behaviour — set the slider to 0 to show all songs.

Check that the containing folder has not been excluded in Behaviour → Folder blacklist. If the folder is not blacklisted, try rebooting your device and waiting a few minutes for the system-wide MediaStore database to rescan. If the song is still missing, your Android version may not support scanning that file extension. For example,
.opus files are only scanned from Android 10 onwards — renaming .opus to .ogg allows detection on Android 6 and later.Folder blacklist
Preference key:blacklist
Opens the Folder blacklist screen, where you can exclude specific folders from the library scan. Songs inside a blacklisted folder will not appear anywhere in Gramophone, regardless of the minimum length setting.
Miscellaneous
Play on launch
Preference key:autoplay · Default: Off
Automatically starts playing music when Gramophone is opened.
Stop on dismiss
Preference key:stopPlayingWhenDismissTask · Default: Off
Stops playback when the Gramophone task is dismissed from the recents screen. When this is off (the default), music continues playing after you swipe away the app.
Enhanced album cover loading
Preference key:album_covers · Default: On
Loads high-quality cover art and allows the album cover and per-song cover to differ.
On Android 13 and later this requires the Photos and videos permission. Tapping this setting while on Android 13+ redirects to the app’s system permission settings page where you can grant or revoke access.
On Android 12 and below, this is a simple on/off toggle stored in preferences. On Android 13+, the toggle reflects the current state of the
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES permission and tapping it opens system settings.
