Fylepad offers extensive customization options to make your writing environment comfortable and personal. Adjust themes, fonts, text colors, and formatting to match your preferences.

Theme settings

Fylepad supports both light and dark themes with automatic system detection.

Switching themes

You can change themes in several ways:
Click the theme toggle icon in the top-right corner of the screen:
  • Sun icon: Switches to light mode
  • Moon icon: Switches to dark mode
Your theme preference is saved automatically and will persist across sessions.

Clean, bright interface with high contrast. Perfect for well-lit environments and daytime use.

Dark mode

Easy on the eyes with reduced brightness. Ideal for low-light conditions and night-time writing.

Choose from over 30 fonts to find the perfect typeface for your writing style.

Open styling menu

Click the styling icon (paint palette) in the top toolbar

Select a font

  • Click the font dropdown to see all available fonts
  • Use the search bar to quickly find a specific font
  • Click on any font name to apply it

Font names are shown in their actual typeface, so you can preview before selecting

Available font categories

Modern, clean fonts perfect for readability:
  • Geist (default) - Modern, highly readable
  • Inter - Designed for UI and long-form text
  • Outfit - Rounded, friendly appearance
  • SpaceGrotesk - Technical, contemporary feel
  • Arial - Classic, widely compatible
  • Helvetica Now - Updated classic design
Traditional fonts with character:
  • Instrument Serif - Elegant, modern serif
  • Libre Baskerville - Traditional book-style font
  • Playfair Display - Sophisticated, high-contrast
  • Prata - Delicate, refined
  • Georgia - Web-optimized readability
  • Times New Roman - Classic print font
Fixed-width fonts ideal for code and technical writing:
  • Roboto Mono - Clean, readable monospace
  • Consolas - Microsoft’s programming font
  • Courier New - Classic typewriter style
Eye-catching fonts for titles and emphasis:
  • Bebas Neue - Bold, condensed uppercase
  • Anton - Heavy impact font
  • Bangers - Comic book style
  • Pacifico - Handwritten brush script
  • Permanent Marker - Casual marker style
  • Dancing Script - Elegant cursive
  • Ink Free - Casual handwriting
Fonts for specific writing needs:
  • Amiri Arabic - Arabic script support
  • Cairo Arabic - Modern Arabic font
  • Gulzar Urdu - Urdu script support

Resetting fonts

To return to the default font:
  1. Open the styling menu
  2. Click the trash icon next to the font selector
  3. The font will reset to Geist (default)
Experiment with different fonts for different types of content. Try serif fonts for long-form writing and monospace for technical notes.

Text color

Customize the color of your text for emphasis or visual organization.

Open styling menu

Click the styling icon in the toolbar

Select text (optional)

Select the text you want to color, or set the color for new text

Choose a color

  • Click the color circle in the “Color” section
  • Pick any color from the color picker
  • The selected text will update immediately

Resetting text color

Click the trash icon next to the color picker to remove custom colors and return to the default text color.
Custom text colors are saved within your note content. Use them thoughtfully to maintain readability in both light and dark themes.

Text alignment

Align your text to create professional-looking documents.

Available alignments

Default alignment. Text aligns to the left margin (most common for Western languages).
Centers text on the page. Perfect for titles, headings, and poetry.
Aligns text to the right margin. Useful for signatures or special formatting.
Stretches text to align with both left and right margins. Creates a clean, professional appearance for paragraphs.

Place cursor

Click in the paragraph or heading you want to align

Select alignment

Click one of the four alignment icons in the “Text align” section. The active alignment is highlighted.
Text alignment applies to the current paragraph or heading. Each paragraph can have its own alignment setting.

While not part of the styling menu, you can also customize your tabs with colors. See Organizing notes for details.

Consider readability

Ensure sufficient contrast between text and background, especially in dark mode

Stay consistent

Use the same fonts and colors across similar content types for a cohesive look

Test both themes

If you use custom colors, test them in both light and dark modes to ensure readability

Styling shortcuts

All styling options are non-destructive. You can always reset fonts and colors to defaults without affecting your content.
Remember: The best customization is one that helps you focus on writing. Start with defaults and adjust only what improves your experience.
