General Mechanics adds a comprehensive set of chemical elements as in-game materials. Every metallic element can be processed into multiple forms used in crafting machines and components.

Item Forms

Each element with a mineable ore produces the following items:
FormDescription
Ore BlockNaturally generated in the world; mined to drop the raw ore
Raw OreDropped when mining the ore block; can be smelted into an ingot
IngotThe primary processed form; smelted from raw ore
NuggetSmallest unit; 9 nuggets craft into one ingot
DustGround form; used in chemical and metallurgical recipes
PlateFlat sheet; produced by hammering an ingot
PileSmall pile form; used in certain crafting recipes
RodCylindrical rod; produced by processing an ingot
Alloy-only elements (Steel, Stainless Steel, Brass, Bronze) do not have a raw ore or ore block — they are crafted or smelted from their constituent elements.

Alloys

Alloys are crafted by combining their constituent elements. They have no natural ore block.
NameSymbolComposition
SteelFeCIron + Carbon
Stainless SteelFeCrNiIron + Chromium + Nickel
BrassCuZnCopper + Zinc
BronzeCuSnCopper + Tin
All four alloys produce the same processed forms as natural elements: ingot, nugget, dust, plate, pile, and rod.

Ice Variants

High-pressure ice phases are available as blocks. These represent real crystallographic forms of water ice.
NameBlock IDNotes
Ice IIice_2Rhombohedral crystal structure
Ice IIIice_3Tetragonal crystal structure
Ice IVice_4Rhombohedral crystal structure
Ice Vice_5Monoclinic crystal structure
Ice VIice_6Tetragonal crystal structure
Ice VIIice_7Cubic crystal structure; highest-pressure variant
Ice VII (ice_7) uses a distinct block class (Ice7Block) and has different physical properties from the lower phases.
