Typist requires the lovely code injector to work. If you already have Steamodded installed, you can skip to installing Typist.

Prerequisites

Install lovely

Typist’s only dependency is the lovely code injector, which is also required by the Steamodded mod loader.

Configure anti-virus

Follow Step 1: Anti-virus setup from the Steamodded installation guide.
Some anti-virus software may flag lovely as malicious. You’ll need to add an exception for it to work properly.

Install lovely

Follow Step 2: Installing Lovely from the Steamodded installation guide.
If you have Steamodded installed, you already have lovely and can proceed to installing Typist.

Install Typist

Download the mod

You can get Typist in two ways:
  1. Go to the Typist GitHub repository
  2. Click the green Code button
  3. Select Download ZIP
  4. Extract the ZIP file

Install to your Mods directory

Move or copy the mod folder to the appropriate location for your platform:
Copy the mod folder to:
%AppData%/Balatro/Mods
Press Win + R, type %AppData%\Balatro\Mods, and press Enter to open this folder quickly.

Verify installation

  1. Launch Balatro
  2. Press any key to skip the splash screen (this is a Typist feature!)
  3. Try pressing space to navigate menus
If you can use keyboard controls, Typist is installed correctly.

Compatibility

Game versions

Typist is compatible with:
  • Balatro 1.0.1n
  • Balatro 1.0.1o

Other mods

Typist works alongside several popular mods:
WilsontheWolf/DebugPlus v1.4.x
  • Hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac) as a leader key for the entire keyboard when in debug mode
  • Typist and DebugPlus console keybinds remain available

Troubleshooting

Keybinds not working

  • Verify that lovely is properly installed
  • Check that the mod folder is in the correct Mods directory
  • Make sure you extracted the entire mod folder, not just some files

Conflicts with other mods

  • If you have FlushHotkeys installed, Typist will automatically handle conflicts
  • For other keyboard-related mods, you may need to disable them or adjust keybinds

Game crashes

  • Ensure you’re running a compatible game version (1.0.1n or 1.0.1o)
  • Check that all mod files are intact and not corrupted
  • Try removing other mods to isolate the issue
