All LBMUN I delegates are expected to follow the conference policies outlined on this page. These rules exist to ensure that every committee session is fair, respectful, and productive — upholding the integrity that Lake Braddock Secondary School has built through years of participation in Model United Nations across Northern Virginia. Delegates who come prepared and committed to these standards make the experience better for everyone in the room.Documentation Index

General Conduct
A productive committee depends on every delegate treating their fellow participants with professionalism and respect. The following conduct standards apply throughout all LBMUN I events:- Respect all participants. Delegates must treat fellow delegates, dais members, staff, and faculty advisors with courtesy at all times. Personal attacks, discriminatory language, and disruptive behavior are not tolerated.
- Minimize distractions during formal session. Phones and non-conference materials should be put away while committee is in formal session. Device use for research during unmoderated caucuses is at the discretion of the dais.
- Follow dais instructions. The chair and co-chair of each committee are responsible for maintaining order. Failure to comply with their instructions, or continued disruption of committee proceedings, may result in a delegate being removed from the session and referred to the secretariat.
Parliamentary Procedure Overview
LBMUN I committees operate under standard Model United Nations parliamentary procedure. The following is a brief overview of how sessions are structured. Delegates are encouraged to study these procedures in detail before arriving — fluency with parliamentary process makes participation far more confident and effective. Roll Call — Each session opens with the chair calling roll. Delegates respond “present” or “present and voting.” Responding “present and voting” means the delegate may not abstain on substantive votes. Setting the Agenda — If a committee has multiple topics, delegates vote to determine which topic is addressed first. Any delegate may motion to set the agenda, and a simple majority carries the vote. Speakers List — The default mode of formal debate. Delegates add their names to the speakers list and deliver prepared speeches within an allotted time determined by the dais. The chair recognizes speakers in order. Motions for Caucus — Delegates may motion to enter a caucus to change the pace or format of debate:- Moderated Caucus — The chair calls on delegates in a structured format around a specific subtopic. Delegates specify the total time and individual speaking time when making the motion.
- Unmoderated Caucus — An informal break from formal debate where delegates circulate freely to negotiate, draft working papers, and build blocs. Delegates specify a total time for the caucus.
Academic Integrity
All written materials submitted to LBMUN I — including position papers and working papers — must represent the delegate’s own original work. Delegates are expected to properly attribute sources and avoid submitting material that is not their own. Violations may be referred to faculty advisors and may affect awards consideration.Awards
Awards at LBMUN I are given at the discretion of each committee’s dais based on the delegate’s overall performance across all sessions. Criteria typically include quality of preparation, engagement in formal and informal debate, contributions to resolution drafting, and adherence to parliamentary procedure and conduct standards. The dais’s decisions are final.Delegate Guide
