The FOMO Machine is a counterfactual analysis tool that turns regret into data. It takes a snapshot of your actual mining history and runs three parallel simulations — an earlier start, a sooner facility upgrade, and avoided surge-period claims — each calculating how much additional hCASH you would have earned had things gone differently. The Opportunity Cost sidebar then applies ongoing pressure: it shows what you are losing right now every day you stay at your current tier. This is not a guilt trip. It is a calibration instrument designed to help you make the next decision with clear eyes.

Step 1: Lock In Reality

Before any simulation runs, you anchor the tool to your actual numbers. Fill in the five fields and click LOCK IN REALITY.

Daily hCASH

Your average daily hCASH earnings at current hashrate and tier. Used as the baseline rate for all three scenario calculations.

Days Mining

How many days you have been actively mining. Used by the Early Bird scenario to anchor the counterfactual start date.

Total Earned

Your cumulative hCASH earned to date. Displayed on the shareable PNG report as your actual reality figure.

hCASH Price (USD)

Current hCASH price, auto-populated from the live price feed. You can override it manually. Lock the price to prevent it from updating while you are exploring scenarios.
Facility Tier (STARTER / STANDARD / ADVANCED / ELITE) is also required. It is used by the Upgrade Path scenario to calculate the delta between your current tier and a higher one. Once locked, the inputs collapse into a compact summary bar showing your total earned, USD value, and days mining. Click Unlock to Edit to revise any value.
The three scenario cards and the AI debrief button are greyed out and non-interactive until reality is locked. This prevents running simulations against an empty or incomplete baseline.

The Three Scenarios

What if you started mining earlier?The Early Bird scenario calculates how much additional hCASH you would have accumulated had you started mining a set number of days sooner than you actually did.
extraHcash = dailyRate × earlyDays
extraUsd   = extraHcash × hCashPrice
Use the Backdated Days slider (range: 7 to 180 days) to adjust how many extra days you are simulating. The delta and its USD equivalent update instantly.This scenario uses a flat daily rate projection — it does not apply historical hashrate growth curves. The assumption is that you would have been mining at your current daily rate for the entire additional period. The result is a conservative floor on the true opportunity cost, since your compounded position would likely have been stronger by now.

The Opportunity Cost Sidebar

The red-bordered Cost of Waiting panel runs continuously alongside the three scenarios. It answers one question: what are you losing right now by staying at your current tier rather than upgrading?
dailyLoss         = dailyHcash × 0.4
monthlyLossHcash  = dailyLoss × 30
monthlyLossUsd    = monthlyLossHcash × hCashPrice
The 40% factor represents the single-tier hashrate advantage gap — the same coefficient used by the Upgrade Path scenario. Staying one tier below optimal costs 40% of your daily rate per day. The sidebar displays:
  • Next 30 Days Loss in hCASH and USD
  • A quoted statement naming the exact daily hCASH being forfeited to more aggressive operators
  • An advisory note that the upgrade typically pays for itself in approximately 12 days of increased yield
The sidebar calculates relative to your current tier, not your simulated target. Its purpose is to maintain ongoing urgency, not to duplicate the Upgrade Path scenario output.

AI Mission Debrief

Once reality is locked, click GET MY MINING MISSION DEBRIEF to send your actual stats and all three scenario deltas to the AI backend (/api/fomo-story). The AI returns a narrative report — styled as a mission debrief — that synthesizes the counterfactual data into a strategic interpretation. It characterizes the scale of the opportunity cost, names the single highest-leverage action available to you right now, and frames the path forward in concrete terms. The debrief is formatted as a flowing prose document, not a bulleted list. It reads like a field report from a seasoned mining intelligence analyst.
The debrief requires a configured Anthropic API key in your deployment environment. See API Keys if the backend is unreachable.

Shareable PNG Report

The right-side panel includes a Generated Share Card — a glitch-aesthetic PNG built from your actual and Early Bird scenario data. The card features:
  • A scanline overlay and radial glow on a near-black background
  • The Early Bird delta in large display type: +{earlyBird.delta} hCASH
  • A subtitle: LOST TO THE TIME STREAM — STARTING DAYS EARLIER
  • Your actual total earned and estimated USD value at the bottom
  • A pulsing CRITICAL OPPORTUNITY LOSS label
Click DOWNLOAD PNG to export at 2× pixel ratio as fomo-report-{timestamp}.png. The card is designed to be shared on social media or used as a personal motivational artifact.
