The SDG Management tool lets Center Admins configure which Sustainable Development Goal targets are associated with each CLARISA lever for their center. These defaults are used to pre-populate SDG alignment on new results, reducing the manual effort required from researchers while ensuring reporting to CGIAR funders and global frameworks stays consistent. The tool is available at /administration/center-admin/sdg-management.
Changes made here affect the default SDG pre-population for new results created at your center. Individual results can still override or extend the defaults on their own Alliance Alignment tab — center-level defaults are a starting point, not a hard constraint.

SDGs in the CGIAR context

The 17 Sustainable Development Goals, defined by the United Nations, form a standard framework for reporting research impact. Within Alliance Research Indicators, every result can be aligned to one or more SDG targets drawn from the CLARISA controlled list (/tools/clarisa/sdg-targets). CLARISA is the canonical taxonomy source for SDGs across all CGIAR platforms — no custom SDG entries are permitted (constraint C-3 from the platform constitution). SDG targets are organized under levers. Levers are thematic categories — for example, a food-security lever groups the SDG targets most relevant to food-system research. The SDG Management screen shows your center’s levers in a collapsible list so you can configure each one independently.

What Center Admins can do here

  • Set default SDG targets per lever — expand a lever row, select one or more SDG targets from the multiselect, and save. The selections apply as defaults for new results that use that lever.
  • Review existing SDG coverage — the expanded view shows which SDG targets are already mapped to each lever, giving you visibility into how your center’s results will roll up in aggregate reporting.
  • Update alignments at any time — saving a lever’s SDG targets replaces the previous defaults for that lever. The change takes effect immediately for new results; existing results are not retroactively modified.

Configuring SDG targets

1

Open SDG Management

Navigate to Administration → Center Admin → SDG Management or go directly to /administration/center-admin/sdg-management. The page loads the levers configured for your center, sorted alphabetically by short name.
2

Expand a lever

Click on a lever row to expand it. The row reveals a multiselect control labelled SDG target(s). Each option shows the SDG target code (e.g., 2.1) alongside the target description and the SDG icon from CLARISA.
3

Select SDG targets

Use the multiselect to choose the SDG targets that apply to this lever for your center. You can filter by code, target text, or label using the search box inside the multiselect. The selected targets are shown as a count badge (e.g., “3 targets selected”).
4

Save the lever

Click Save at the bottom-right of the expanded lever section. The application sends a PATCH request to update the lever–SDG-target mappings. A green confirmation banner appears when the save succeeds. If the save fails, a red error banner prompts you to try again.
5

Repeat for other levers

Collapse the current lever and repeat for each lever you want to configure. Each lever is saved independently — you do not need to configure all levers in one session.
SDG targets are sourced exclusively from the CLARISA taxonomy. You cannot create custom SDG entries or add targets that do not exist in the CLARISA list. If you believe a required SDG target is missing, raise it with your CLARISA data steward.
