Reactions Overview

Reactions let viewers express emotions and respond to specific video moments using emojis. They’re:
  • Quick: One-click engagement
  • Timestamped: Placed at specific video moments
  • Visual: Appear on video timeline
  • Aggregated: Show popular moments
  • Non-intrusive: Don’t interrupt playback
Reactions are enabled by default alongside comments. They provide lightweight engagement without requiring text.

How Reactions Work

Adding Reactions

  1. Watch your video
  2. When you see something you want to react to, click the reaction button
  3. Choose an emoji
  4. Reaction is placed at that timestamp
You can add multiple reactions throughout a video, even at the same timestamp.

Available Emojis

Common reaction emojis include:
  • 👍 Thumbs up
  • ❤️ Love
  • 😂 Laugh
  • 😮 Surprise
  • 👎 Thumbs down
  • 🎉 Celebrate
  • 💔 Sad
  • 🔥 Fire
  • 🤔 Thinking
  • 👏 Applause
More emoji options may be available depending on your platform.

Viewing Reactions

Activity Tab

All reactions appear in the Activity tab:
  1. Open video share page
  2. Click Activity tab
  3. View reactions mixed with comments
  4. Filter by reactions only (toggle)

Timeline Display

Reactions show on the video timeline:
  • Markers: Small indicators on progress bar
  • Counts: Number shows how many reactions at that moment
  • Hover: See breakdown of emoji types
  • Click: Jump to that moment

Reaction Stamps on Video

When enabled, floating reaction stamps appear:
  • Show during playback at the moment reactions were added
  • Display emoji and count
  • Fade in and out smoothly
  • Don’t obstruct main content
Video owners can disable reaction stamps in video settings if they’re distracting.

Reaction Analytics

Track reaction engagement:

Total Reactions

  • Count of all emoji reactions
  • Breakdown by emoji type
  • Reaction rate (reactions per view)
Identify video moments with most reactions:
  • Peaks show engaging content
  • Clusters indicate memorable scenes
  • Use data to improve future videos

Reaction Heatmap

Visualize reaction distribution:
  • Timeline heatmap shows reaction density
  • Brighter colors = more reactions
  • Identify high-engagement sections
See Analytics for detailed metrics.

Reactions vs Comments

Best for:
  • Quick emotional responses
  • Showing appreciation
  • Highlighting funny moments
  • Agreement/disagreement
  • Celebrating wins
  • No explanation needed

Managing Reactions

For Video Owners

Reaction management options in video settings.

Disable Reactions

  1. Go to video settings
  2. Find Reactions section
  3. Toggle Allow reactions to Off
  4. Save changes
When disabled:
  • Existing reactions are hidden
  • New reactions cannot be added
  • Can be re-enabled anytime

Hide Reaction Stamps

Keep reactions but hide visual stamps:
  1. Video settings → Reactions
  2. Toggle Show reaction stamps to Off
  3. Reactions still trackable in Activity tab
Useful if reactions distract from your content but you still want to track engagement.

Reaction Etiquette

1

React Genuinely

Only react when you genuinely feel that emotion
2

Be Positive

Use positive reactions to encourage creators
3

Don't Spam

Avoid excessive reactions that might seem insincere
4

Context Matters

Ensure reaction fits the video moment

Reaction Timestamps

Precise Timing

Reactions capture:
  • Exact second when emoji was added
  • Video playback position
  • Millisecond precision

Clicking Reaction Timestamps

Jump to reactions:
  1. View reactions in Activity tab
  2. Click the timestamp on any reaction
  3. Video seeks to that moment
  4. Replay the scene that triggered the reaction

Anonymous Reactions

Reactions are semi-anonymous:
  • No author names: Only emoji is shown
  • Aggregated counts: Multiple reactions combined
  • Privacy-friendly: No personal data exposed
Unlike comments, reactions don’t show who reacted. They’re designed for quick, low-friction engagement.

Reactions in Embeds

Reactions work in embedded videos:
  • Viewers can react on embedded players
  • Reaction counts sync across embed and main page
  • Timestamps work the same
  • Subject to video privacy settings
Embeds can have reaction stamps disabled separately from main page.

Best Practices for Creators

Encourage Reactions

  • Call-to-action: Ask viewers to react
  • Engage back: Acknowledge reaction trends
  • Create moments: Build suspense or humor to trigger reactions

Analyze Patterns

  • Identify which content types get most reactions
  • See if certain topics resonate
  • Find your most engaging moments
  • Replicate successful patterns

Use with Comments

Combine both features:
  • Reactions for quick feedback
  • Comments for detailed discussions
  • Both add to engagement metrics
  • Complement each other
