Analytics Overview

Cap provides detailed analytics for all your shared videos, helping you understand:
  • How many people are watching
  • Where viewers are located
  • How engaged they are
  • What content resonates most
Analytics are available for all Cap users. Pro users get additional advanced metrics.

Accessing Analytics

Web Dashboard

  1. Go to cap.so/dashboard
  2. Find your video
  3. Click on the video card
  4. Select the Analytics tab

Video Share Page

View basic analytics on the share page:
  • View count: Total number of views
  • Comments: Number of text comments
  • Reactions: Number of emoji reactions

Core Metrics

Views

Total number of times your video has been watched. What counts as a view:
  • Video is loaded and played
  • Counts once per session
  • Includes embedded views
  • Refreshing the page counts as a new view
View count updates in real-time as people watch your video.

Watch Time

Total time viewers have spent watching your video. Metrics included:
  • Total watch time: Cumulative across all viewers
  • Average watch time: Mean time per viewer
  • Watch percentage: How much of the video viewers watch on average

Engagement Rate

Measure of viewer interaction:
Engagement Formula
Engagement Rate = (Comments + Reactions) / Views × 100
Higher engagement indicates more compelling content.

Comments

Track discussion on your videos:
  • Total comments: All text comments
  • Timestamped comments: Comments at specific video moments
  • Comment rate: Comments per view
Comments include both top-level comments and replies.

Reactions

Emoji reactions placed on your video:
  • Total reactions: All emoji reactions
  • Reaction types: Breakdown by emoji
  • Reaction timestamps: When in the video reactions occur

Geographic Data

See where your viewers are located:
  • Country breakdown: Views by country
  • City-level data: Detailed location insights
  • Map visualization: Geographic heatmap

Referrer Sources

Understand how viewers find your video:
  • Direct: Typed URL or bookmark
  • Social Media: Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.
  • Embedded: Views from embedded players
  • Email: Clicks from email links
  • Other: All other referral sources

Device Analytics

  • Desktop vs Mobile: Viewing device breakdown
  • Browser: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.
  • Operating System: Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, etc.

Retention Graph

See when viewers drop off:

  • X-axis: Video timeline
  • Y-axis: Percentage of viewers still watching
  • Insights: Identify engaging vs boring sections
Steep drops in the retention graph indicate where you might need to improve your content.

Play Rate

Percentage of visitors who click play:
Play Rate = (Plays / Page Views) × 100
A low play rate may indicate:
  • Unappealing thumbnail
  • Unclear title or description
  • Slow page load times

Real-Time Analytics

View current activity on your video:
  • Active viewers: People watching right now
  • Recent views: Views in the last hour/day
  • Live engagement: Comments and reactions as they happen
Real-time data refreshes every few seconds automatically.

Downloading Data

  1. Open video analytics
  2. Click Export button
  3. Choose format:
    • CSV (spreadsheet)
    • JSON (raw data)
  4. Select date range
  5. Download file

Understanding Metrics

Completion Rate

Percentage of video watched on average:
  • High (greater than 70%): Very engaging content
  • Medium (40-70%): Good engagement
  • Low (less than 40%): May need improvement
Shorter videos typically have higher completion rates. Compare similar-length videos for fair benchmarks.

Engagement Patterns

Identify key moments:
  • Peaks in comments: Interesting or controversial moments
  • Reaction clusters: Funny, impressive, or emotional scenes
  • Drop-offs: Boring sections or technical issues

Best Performing Videos

Compare metrics across videos:
  • Most views
  • Highest engagement rate
  • Best completion rate
  • Most shared

Privacy and GDPR

Cap analytics are privacy-focused:
  • No personal identification: Viewer names/emails not collected
  • Aggregated data: Individual sessions not tracked
  • GDPR compliant: No cookies required for basic analytics
  • Opt-out friendly: Viewers can block analytics

  • Medium videos (2-10 min): 40-60% is good
