After upload:
  1. Link is automatically copied to clipboard
  2. Or click the copy icon next to the link in recordings list
  3. Green checkmark confirms copy
Share links are permanent and don’t expire. The same link works forever unless you delete the video.

Opening in Browser

The link automatically opens in your browser after upload if:
  • Auto-open links is enabled (Settings → Cap Pro Settings)
  • You’re using Instant Mode
  • Upload completed successfully
Disable auto-open in settings if you prefer to share without previewing.

Privacy Settings

Public (Unlisted)

Default setting for all videos:
  • Accessible with the link
  • Not searchable or indexed
  • Not listed in public directories
  • Anyone with link can view
“Unlisted” means your video won’t appear in search engines or Cap’s public gallery, but anyone with the link can watch it.

Password Protected (Pro)

Cap Pro Required
Add password protection:
  1. Open video settings in web dashboard
  2. Enable Password Protection
  3. Set a password
  4. Save changes
Viewers must enter the password before watching.
Use password protection for sensitive content, internal company videos, or client presentations.

Private (Pro)

Cap Pro Required
Restrict access to specific users:
  1. Set video to Private
  2. Invite specific email addresses
  3. Only invited users can access
  4. Requires sign-in to view

Custom Domains (Pro)

Share videos on your own domain:

Setting Up Custom Domain

  1. Go to Dashboard Settings
  2. Navigate to Custom Domain
  3. Enter your domain (e.g., videos.yourcompany.com)
  4. Add DNS records as instructed:
    • CNAME record pointing to Cap
  5. Verify domain
  6. Wait for DNS propagation (up to 48 hours)

Switching Between Domains

In the desktop app:
  1. Click the dropdown next to share link
  2. Select between:
    • cap.so (default)
    • Your custom domain
  3. Chosen link is copied
Both links point to the same video. Use whichever domain you prefer for sharing.

Managing Shared Videos

Updating Shared Videos

You can update a shared video without changing the link:
  1. Open recording in desktop editor
  2. Make your changes
  3. Click Reupload button
  4. Same link now shows updated video
Viewers, comments, reactions, and analytics are preserved when reuploading.

Disabling Shares

To stop sharing a video:
  1. Go to web dashboard
  2. Find the video
  3. Click Settings
  4. Select Make Private or Delete
Making a video private breaks all existing share links. Viewers will see an access denied message.
Track how your video is being viewed:
  • Total views
  • View duration
  • Geographic locations
  • Referral sources
  • Engagement metrics
