System requirements

Metrolist requires Android 8.0 (API level 26) or later. It runs on phones and tablets. No Google account or Google Play Services is required for the default FOSS build.

Build flavors

Metrolist is distributed in three variants. Choose the one that fits your setup:

FOSS (default)

No Google Play Services required. Google Cast is not available. Includes the built-in updater. Recommended for most users.

GMS

Adds Google Cast support for streaming to Chromecast and Cast-enabled devices. Requires Google Play Services to be installed on your device.

IzzyOnDroid

Same as FOSS but with the built-in updater disabled — IzzyOnDroid handles updates automatically through its repository.
The IzzyOnDroid variant has the built-in updater disabled because the store manages updates on your behalf. If you install from IzzyOnDroid, update through the IzzyOnDroid app or F-Droid client instead.

Download the APK

Get the latest release from one of the official sources:

Direct APK download from the official GitHub repository. Always up to date.

Obtainium

Tracks GitHub Releases and notifies you when a new version is available.

IzzyOnDroid

F-Droid-compatible repository. Delivers the IzzyOnDroid variant.

OpenAPK

Third-party APK mirror.

Allow installation from unknown sources

Because Metrolist is not distributed through the Google Play Store, Android requires you to permit APK installs from outside the store.
  1. Open Settings on your device.
  2. Go to Apps (or Application management) → find your browser or file manager.
  3. Tap Install unknown apps and enable Allow from this source.
The exact path varies by device manufacturer and Android version. On some devices you will see a prompt automatically when you open the APK.

Open the downloaded APK and install

Locate the downloaded .apk file in your notifications or in your Downloads folder, tap it, and follow the on-screen prompts to complete installation.

Automatic updates with Obtainium

Obtainium is the recommended way to keep Metrolist up to date. It monitors GitHub Releases directly and can download and install new versions automatically without the Play Store.
